Re: Merchandise General
I got nothing. I've been to a bunch of cons and cosplayed a few times.. but the merch has never appealed.

Re: Merchandise General
I'm more into mecha (what a twist!), so I have been collecting those in the past few years thanks to Bandai's Super Robot Chogokin series:

My current display:

I don't display everything at once as it would be a bit of a clusterfuck and also it helps combat dust buildup via rotating my setups.
I'm planning on getting a few gunpla kits sometimes.

I'm a cosplay master and I have the trophy to prove it. Also slowly collecting merch. I have 3 MG gundams 3 SDs and 1 HG. Planning on getting G-Self and Build Burning soon also.

If you don't want me to pick one, just say it.Insert_blank wrote:^That makes a lot of sense. I also really like this round robin idea where everyone (even Vami) gets to pick one.

Re: Merchandise General
I'm sorry, but I just don't understand. What appeal do you see in this kinda stuff?
I couldn't come up with anything smart, original or funny, so <=THIS=> is what you get.

What appeal do you see in legos? What appeal do you see in any hobby? Why do people like things?

Re: Merchandise General
Hey sorry, I guess it's just not my thing. But I wasn't talking about anime, I meant cosplaying, and buying the merchandise. It's sortof the same with football fans, and I don't get them either.

Re: Merchandise General
Sorry ib and overwatch are so sensitive.
Cosplaying is kind of like dressing up for halloween, and I think people derive fun from different parts of it:
6. Making the costume. This can be fun if you like sewing, or if you like going to thrift shops and being creative.
7. Getting attention from people who like your costume, and signalling to others that you like X anime or X show. I once talked for a long time about Avatar with this dude dressed up as Aang.
8. Getting into a cosplay contest and competing against others.
9. Acting like your favourite character.
10. Having people take your picture and telling you that you're best girl.
As for merchandise, I'm not 100% sure. My theories:
6. People want to contribute to the sales of a show.
7. People like playing with their figures (Zahru falls into this category I think).
8. People are obsessed with this one show and own 500 Madoka figures. bronises can also fall into this category.
9. People want to sleep & cuddle their Shinji (bodypillows).
10. They don't have a girlfriend or real life friends, so they make friends with the figures they own.
11. They bought figures to destroy them because they hate the character.
12. People buy t-shirts because they're nerds who want to display their power level subtly, in hopes that people start conversations about the stuff on their shirts.
13. To brag alot.

Re: Merchandise General
Fixed that for you. As if I would be sensitive. I was pointing out that people like things for nebulous reasons at best. The real answer is chemicals in your brain react in a way to make you like something.Silverdream wrote:Sorry ib and overwatch are good at explaining things.

9?. Winning awards and being a literal cosplay master (this can go on your resume).

Did I never mention that I think Colette and I are really similar in some ways?
