The Darkness itself is a disease, sentient and wanting to grow. Units that have it become immortal and get all the benefits from that. Allies of the Darkness and its influence want to help it spread through the galaxy, to thrive like a living being. However, others see the Darkness as an evil being, one that mercilessly conquers everything in its path. (both are kinda true)
