Whoever described it as a manticore I think was spot on. That's what it looks like to me too. Not sure if I like the horns mid-back...i wonder if their location might be changed?

I'll try some different configurations, I think I even have some connector pieces in tan. I'll also make it more manticore than winged lion, it's indeed more sinister.

Yeah, it sucks when you lack just those 2 items to finish a squad. Custom decals are your friends. Or a brick-built shield? Otherwise, what Elmagnifico said. There's always room for characters / champions / Special units.

I've found a 5th one luckily, the guy from whom I'm getting it also makes cloth minifig capes for stupidly cheap, so it's a win-win

Well, it's not easy if you want to get it quick and not from abroad. But as I just said, problem's solved, soon the elven lancers will be complete. Also, cavalry updates.
