Oh, and...
james+burgundy wrote:...just because you don't spend every cent you make on Lego does not mean you have to whine about it to the guy that does. I have been buying lego for over ten years and in the past 2-3 I have been making a lot more $ and finding some really nice yard sale deals, but if you want to think its my parents then by all means do that I however can only dream that they would support my hobby like that.
CAN'T is a better word. Some of us actually have to pay for things besides toys. You know, doctors appointments, school, clothes, food, etc. Some of us don't have the luxury of parents even being able to pay for health insurance and the like, let alone buy things ON TOP of that, so we actually have to budget ourselves.

Being able to say "Oh, I'm getting my allowance next week so I can blow all of it on Lego" is pretty much saying "Oh, my parents spoil me enough to make it so I don't have to pay for gas to get to school." Hell, you're spoiled enough to not even HAVE to go to school. I bet you're gonna get your parents to pay for some fancy private college, but then end up working at McDonald's for the rest of your life, then falling back on your parents because you're blowing all that money on video games, movies, and stuff. They'll be paying your bills while you're sitting at home, wondering why you can't pay for anything.

I just feel sorry for your parents.

I strongly agree with OneEye on this, and we hardly ever see eye to... uh, anyway... I think this old post sums up J+B's relationship with his mom and pops.
james+burgundy wrote:I wrote this on the back of a envelope while waiting for the FBI to get out of the grocery store.

What is this perverse thing called society ? A madcap parody of utopia ? How can there be life in this monolithic place of death? All the life there was has been torn down, run over and cast away by the vanguard of progress. Is society truly civilized when anarchy is the new term for sanity, and to be civilized you must also be a destroyer of the sane.

I do admit I changed it up a little bit, the part where it says "vanguard of progress" I changed form "vanguard of doom".
To which my reply was...

+1

I help with the groceries whenever I go (the FBI usually does the shopping on Sunday mornings, and I haven't woken up yet. I think I need to wake up earlier.), take the garbage in and out every week, and various other small jobs.

This coming from someone with one of the worst work ethics in the world.

Fact: Spoiled kids most often don't know/admit they're spoiled, since they don't know what it's like to not be spoiled, or don't want to get less because they're too used to being spoiled.

:rtfm: Not actual research, just pure common sense and observation of the world around me.

I send money back to my parents every month to help them run the farm back on the other side of the country. I'm still pretty spoiled though, considering I get the money in the first place for playing with Lego all day.

Yea, but that was after years of art school and, if I remember correctly, keeping your head low and working under-the-table jobs because someone wanted to kill you.
