Eh, screw the door-destroying tentacle demons, let's flood the world with lava! And besides, we'd have to have a full garrison to even attempt to take them on. Ingenious trap ideas, friends.
Say, didn't we make a lavasub last time we tried this? I recall that when I tested it it punched a hole through it's lavatube.

Okay, here's my log for the year so far.
1st of Granite:
Piss, its cold out here. We parked ourselves right by a Cliffside and have begun preparations for making this fortress. We set out with seven of us: Me, Oremawesome, Rossvarn, Cadians, Arkbrik, and 2 more whose names escape me for now. I set Orem off to mine some stuff, including a rudimentary moat. Meanwhile, I have our carpenter go cut down some trees. Finally, my voice horse after barking so many orders, I sit back and relax. Guide had a funny name for this place. The Stones of War, he called it. Sounds nice.
22nd of Granite:
Well, the snow went away. If we’re lucky, the ice will follow suit, and we can start farming. I’m not giving Orem much of a break, but we really do need what he’s doing, so he’ll just have to persevere. So far nobody’s dropped a rock on themselves, so I can relax and tell everyone what to do. It’s weird, I havn’t seen too many wild animals, just a couple of rabbits. Course, can’t imagine them taking to lone to get fed up and try to eat us. Hm, maybe it’s warmer underground. Thinking that we could make a little something to get those damn elves, maybe flood the trade depot and drown em. Let’s us take there stuff to.
26th of Granite:
Built us some beds, made a dormitory, and planed the downfall of those elves. The ice melted, so the farm should be functional soon.
16th of Slate:
Beginning work on a little something, hopefully it will work.
24th of Slate:
Told Orem to go dig us out a suitable place to kick back and relax, since I’m tired of hanging around the wagon. He’s also going to carve out a spot for a mechanics workshop; I figure we’ll need the mechanisms for our little project.
1st of Hematite:
Summer is upon us. Hopefully the project will be complete before the elves get here.
11th of Hematite:
Deciding progress is going to slow, I tell Rossvarn, our metalworker, to get off his ass and start digging.
10th of Malachite:
Some migrants arrived today. Maybe they’ll be useful. Maybe. We got a spinner, a furnace operator, and another fisherdwarf. I retract my previous statement, they’re useless. Still, they can carry shit, so that’s a plus. Maybe I can make them into our military.
1st of Limestone
Autumn is upon us. I have Orem working around the clock to complete project Elf snuggle.
12th of Limestone:
The animals are beginning to bread. Hopefully we won’t fall victim to a catsplosion.
15th of Limestone:
It’s complete. Testing shall begin immediately.
16th of Limestone:
I am amazed! The whole depot flooded instantly. Those pointy eared bastards are in for a surprise. (Note, consider draining into a farm for improved efficiency.)
More will come as more happens. Sorry about the lack of pictures.

a rare example of an awesome elf... who became king of dwarves after having his wife eaten by some other elves.

Act first, then think, then try to find a way to cover up the horrible mess you made.
