The Pirate Game

Ok, it is time to play the pirate game.

A crew of five pirates has captured a chest containing 100 gold coins. They must now divide the gold among themselves. The crew has a strict hierarchy: the captain is superior to the first mate, who is superior to the second mate, who is superior to the mate, who is superior to the cabin boy.

The captain alone decides how the gold should be divided. Once he has made his decision, the entire crew (including the captain) votes on it. If the majority of the votes are positive, or if there is a draw, the desicion stands and the game is over. If the majority of the votes are negative, the captain walks the plank and dies, the first mate becomes the new captain, and everyone else moves one step up the command chain. The new captain then divides the gold again.

Your goal is to survive, and get as much gold as possible.

There is an interesting logic problem with this premise, but it assumes that all of the pirates are perfectly rational actors; let's see how it turns out in the real world!
