Dinosaur Hunter.......

Post by White Nun » Fri Apr 08, 2011 6:44 am

Apart from Elves a firm favourite of mine is Victorian Sci-Fi and Steampunk and I absolutely love steam powered walkers and aerial gunboats and steam powered flying saucers & etc

I was digging about in a joblot of bricks and there seemed to be most of a helicopter in the bits, but when I came to build it I just didn't like it because I'd had to make so many compromises due to missing parts. So I did the logical thing and made a purpose built Steampunk Dinosaur Hunter walker.

The tail gunner is essential for when making a run for it from an angry Dinosaur is a necessary choice.

I changed the pilot for somebody more suitable.

I'm awfully tempted to paint the brightly coloured walking gubbins in more suitable colours, but I'm not sure if major paintjobs on Lego or clone bits is the done thing.

Steampunk will be something I mess about with when I feel like a change, but I had thought of using this set of Terminator decals (not my artwork) as the basis of some steam powered robots made by an evil scientist.

Image

Otherwise it will be Indiana Jones looking types and Imperial Troopers armed with Galvanic electro-synaptic discharge rifles and the like. The odd Heroine, White Russians, Archeologists, Dinosaur hunters, etc etc

Thanks Warhead (and Mini-Warhead) :D

When it comes to bricks I've got more Mega Bloks stuff than anything else so it's a bit hard to avoid. Here in NZ Mega Bloks I can buy cheap by the barrow load. Lego, I'd have to sell a kidney

I was gonna say steam AT-ST. I love the tail gunner, it really gives it an old-fashioned look.

Steampunk: Just add goggles.

This is one of the most unique creations I've seen.

@Fredde. I must've tried about 5 different leg designs before I settled on that one. No pictures, but some of them were downright ungainly and others were instant trip over material.

@RunsWithLegos. Yes I'm planning on building more, - only I can't promise they will be identical unless I get lucky with finding more dead helicopter bits. I think most of the fun would come from each walker being different and with different characteristics; - anyway we'll see.

@Pwnerade. Yes goggles with everything. I just need to find some more of them now.

@Theblackdog. Yes that's the word, 'steam AT-ST'. Tail gunners are essential equipment for Steampunk and you'll certainly see more of them from me.

Glad you liked and enjoyed my first Steampunk MOC, thanks for the feedback and comments

With every joint in the old 'Hunter' grinding and creaking 'Biggles' McCree managed to avoid a swipe from the big blue robot that would've taken out the boiler and darn near cut the poor old girl in half.
He could hear Mad Jim trying to get a bead on the the big robot, but he'd be pushing it to get the gun around that far on its mounting. Only one thing to do; - cut and run. T'was a good plan and he couldn't see a fault with it.

'Use the freaking rockets fer once ya tightwad,' yelled Mad Jim as he felt the 'Hunter' creak back into a more upright position and begin to move away from the big blue robot steam hissing from every gland and joint and the main engine underneath the boiler banging like it was trying to get free and run off on its own. Swinging around on the end of the heavy chain fed repeating steam rifle Mad Jim loosed off a dozen rounds and swore. Blinking feed pressure was slack, might as well throw rocks at the bitch.

'Aye, that was the best plan,' Biggles McCree told himself as the 'Hunter' began to pick up speed. No sense in wasting the rockets, - not at the price they were..........

I can hoestly imagine a passage like that in some sort of book although no specific ones come to mind.

Nice job with the robot looks old godish to me like some ancient protector of something.
Only 2 things are infinite the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not so sure about the former- Albert Einstien.

Steam rifle? The first true machiegun, the Maxim Gun, was invented in 1884, and they had gatling guns before that. No need to steam-ify something that already existed at the time.
