I have a friend named Nargkjaf.
Meanwhile, back on topic....
My brother and I started with 2005 and we've gradually mixed in more and more 2001 elements. I prefer the "elegant synergy" of a blended rules system.

Screw the 2005 AND 2001 rules. It's all about 1998 rules. Those were better, ya know it.

Yeah, those were pretty awesome too. But I play 2001.
I think those stats only apply to non-Mexicans.

I have a tough time because I memorized the 2001 rules from front to back because I always had so many emails to answer about them, but I was way too lazy to ever play by the full set. So I always cheated and played a simplified version very close to what eventually became the 2005 rules, but not quite; and now when I try and do 2005 stuff I end up confusing myself.

more kinds of weapons, I like my different weapoons to do different stuff.
so that's why I use the 2001 rules. mostly.
Act first, then think, then try to find a way to cover up the horrible mess you made.

I like how 2001 has so many cool troop types! They already have stats for zombies and skellies.

I play using the 2005 rules - way more understandable for my little brother.
But wait a sec. Rayhawk, you actually don't even use the rules that you made up?!

Oh well, that's Brikwars for ya.

I and my brother started with the 2005 rules just to figure out how to play, but we found the weaponry to be too limited in the 2005 rules, so I printed out index-card-sized lists of all the weaponry charts from the 2001 rules and we used them. (Of course, using 2001 weapons in an otherwise 2005 game screws up the balance somewhat, buuut...
My opinion is that 2001 makes for a more interesting game, but you really have to start with 2005 if you're not a real-life supergenius Hero-class minifig because trying to play 2001 straight-up can make it a bit too difficult to actually get around to having fun.

actually once you got basic gameplay and some simple weapons figured out 2001 isn't all that difficult if you just ignore 90% of its rules.
Act first, then think, then try to find a way to cover up the horrible mess you made.
