OUR DREAMS HAVE COME TRUE (Or mine anyway...)

Looks like I beat Enigma to the punch. Check out what was just posted on Brickarms Flickr page:

I am now anticipating this more than any other proto/brickarms product. This is awesome...

I hope the separate part won't rotate independently of each other. That would ruin the whole thing for me.

Well, knowing brickarms you better expect them to be.

They posted this on the Brickarms forums:
Will wrote:All components use a 1/16" pin and socket system and are held by friction. The M4 receiver has 5 holes to accommodate a butt stock, fore stock, mag, and two holes for scopes
I hope it will be pretty sturdy, like a technic friction pin, or like taking a bar and putting it in a round brick or something.

Me too. I figured that if they were, say, around $0.20 per element, then you could have a full weapon for $1 like the majority of the other brickarms - a stock, receiver, forend, barrel, and magazine. I'd probably still bite at around $0.25 per piece, but more than that would be hard for me to take.

I hope they're just as colorful as the parts in the pictures.

I'd expect them to come in above $0.50 cents each.

Glad you think the MODCOM Kits are as awesome as I do! I actually didn't plan on posting here as they're definitely at the prototype WIP stage, but to answer some of the questions that have been raised as best I can:

From what I understand, Will has sized the parts for a perfect fit: firm enough to stay connected and not move around once connected but not so tight that they can't be attached or removed without excessive force. You can use the fits of the BrickArms Minigun and M2HB as a reference for just how well Will appreciates that clutch power is a key aspect of doing buildable components right.

That said, I don't have the parts in hand, so I can't speak from personal experience. Hopefully some folks at Brickfair who had the chance to play around with them will post their thoughts!
Nimja wrote:Good lord. I hope they aren't too expensive.
They aren't for sale at Brickfair VA (where the M4 and AK MODCOM Kits were unveiled), and it's honestly impossible for anyone (probably including Will) to say how these kits would be marketed as hand-made boutique kits (similar to his Reloaded series of overmlded items) or IF he decided to take the concept into the mass production.

All in all, right now it's just a (really awesome) test of new direction for Will, so ultimately we'll have to see what (if anything) he decides to do with it! If/when there are any updates, I'll be sure to post them here.

Mayhaps a line of weapon parts, with the stocks, foregrip, barrels and sights etc. transferable from one gun to the next, for a truly unique weapon?

I imagine that'd be a huge challenge design-wise, but hey, Will's awesome. Awesome enough for me to bet he'd be up to it.

I can think of a major upside to this for me especially. I would like wooden furniture on most of my brickarms, but overmoulding is not a common practice so I usually have to paint them, I f these are released it will make everything easier.
