Re: STD?
I like the basic shape and the gun, but it needs a lot more polish. Some SNOT on the sides of the main body and more detail would go a long way.
Also, every time I look at the armory I mistakenly read this thread as "STD?". True story.

Re: STD?
For turrets, I like to take four arch pieces. Connect two of them normally, and use a technic pin to connect both half-circles together. After that, use either technic pins or wheelhousings to fit into the grooves around the arches, and build around that for a turret. It will fall off if your tank ever goes upside-down though.

But I think you are right About those round bits, And could Anyone post pictures of Turret designs? that is often the hardest part of a tank in my opinion.
We could post pics but I doubt it would help, through no fault of your or our own, because not everyone has the parts supplies available right? Just browse other tank threads. Kaplan and ikensall make amazing tanks. All you need is a spinny bit and a up and down bit for a turret, designs vary greatly I've noticed. Use imagination. There's no wrong way, just a way that looks like shit and a way that looks awesome.
If I have good light tomorrow I will take some pics of my tank. I don't know if it'll help you, but maybe?
Also, size isn't something you should be hung up on. The bigger/scarier a thing is the more likely it is to be targeted, taken out early in the game or disabled and useless. I like my mini mechs because they have the same gunnery as the big mechs but are very unassuming and get overlooked frequently.
Good luck dude.

Re: STD?
If finding parts is an issue then you could always try incorporating an unusual colour of which you have a lot of (useful) parts in. For example, about 1/3 of my builds are mostly yellow in colour, and yet they're generally quite well-received. If anything the yellow-ness is a feature that gives them a bit more originality (because alas, yellow tanks aren't that commonplace). Besides, they had retro Daleks that were red and blue right? So it's not like it wouldn't blend.
Just one word of warning; pick your "feature" colour and stick with it, or face a
.
tl;dr: Make it pink.

The new model looks more like a space frigate than a tank, I'd compare it to scratch's space limo.motorhead fan wrote:

Re: STD?
Alright, here's my tank. Not nearly as good as some I've seen on here but I'm mostly happy with it. I've rebuilt it probably three or four times. Sometimes just slightly but the last time quite a bit. This is how it currently is. I tried to take a lot of pics of the gun/turret area, I don't mind at all if you copy the design, but you'd obviously need the parts. The part that allows the turret to spin is this:

See how the other machine gun moves independently? This is functional as fuck.

Back part opens, couldn't make the top hatch open... oh well, it works, tank has operators.

There they are with top removed. Mismatched dudes cuz you don't see them anyway. Plus my army is intentionally a "throw together" army with the exception of some uniformed units.
Anyway, hope this helps... at the very least it should inspire you.... maybe?

Re: STD?
it is a very good turret, thanks. I will try something along those lines.
Re: STD?
I edited... lol. I found out the part is called a turntable. Super useful.

But why not just use a flat 360 degree turn-table, and then use smooth plates around it to smooth it out. So this way, you have a smooth 360, meanwhile maintaining a smooth look too without that 1/2 inch gap.Bluefog wrote:I edited... lol. I found out the part is called a turntable. Super useful.

Because he's got it embedded inside the turret and built the sloped armour around it.HonoreBalzac wrote:But why not just use a flat 360 degree turn-table, and then use smooth plates around it to smooth it out. I'm not seeing that, I still see the gap, am I wrong?loafofcheese wrote:Because he's got it embedded inside the turret and built the sloped armour around it.HonoreBalzac wrote:But why not just use a flat 360 degree turn-table, and then use smooth plates around it to smooth it out. Re: STD?
Yeah, I've built it down around the turntable, you can't even see the turntable. I would put flat plates on the top because I don't like exposed studs, but the turntable won't spin, there is no half inch gap though. The gap is tiny.HonoreBalzac wrote:I'm not seeing that, I still see the gap, am I wrong?loafofcheese wrote:Because he's got it embedded inside the turret and built the sloped armour around it.HonoreBalzac wrote:But why not just use a flat 360 degree turn-table, and then use smooth plates around it to smooth it out. Maybe half inch is exaggerating, but the turret's not wobbly?Bluefog wrote:Yeah, I've built it down around the turntable, you can't even see the turntable.
