Speaking of Heroes of the Storm, did any of you get alpha access? I did but it's not like we could play together because US/EU servers, so I'm asking more out of curiosity.

Re: Did someone say MOBA?
I dunno, I just didn't enjoy Dota as much as League. It feels less intuitive to me, for some reason. Maybe that's just because I'm used to it, but then again I also enjoyed trying Smite and Strife. I dunno.
What's heroes of the storm?

It's Blizzard's take on the genre - a lot simpler than other games (no farm, no items, no gold etc), but it makes up for it with map variety and map-specific team objectives.

From what I've heard, League is more skill shotty than Dota, but Dota is faster paced and punishes you harder for poor positioning.

There are multiple passive talents and multiple ultimates to choose from as your character levels up during a match, so that offers some build options.mgb519 wrote:Aw, but that means I can't build my character wrong...
Re: Did someone say MOBA?
But it won't be WRONG. I can't play a mage as an ADC. I'm guessing. That's part of the fun, you know.

Re: Did someone say MOBA?
Having played both games since their start (original DotA on War Craft 3 and LoL Season 1) I can say that that's actually somewhat true. The best way I can describe them is LoL is a lot easier to understand and more available for new players of the genre. And yes there's a lot more skill shots involved as far as spells and such that do require some skill to use. Overall though the game is pretty straightforward, which is both good and bad. The good being it's easier to get into, the bad being there is not as much diversity in possible strategies.Zupponn wrote:From what I've heard, League is more skill shotty than Dota, but Dota is faster paced and punishes you harder for poor positioning.
DotA on the other hand is much more deep and more difficult to get into. It literally took me 2 weeks of playing to get into DotA 2 and fully understand it after playing LoL for so long, and I played the original DotA. There are just so many little things to learn even if you know other MOBAs, from wave blocking and denying, to stacking and pulling jungle creeps, to wardblocking the enemies jungle, etc. There's also a lot more diverse strategies to be used. Wanna go the typical easy strategy? Cool, 2 players each for top and bot lane, and 1 midlaner (who may or may not be a ganker). Have a good solo laner? Throw a jungler into the mix. Getting crushed in your lane? No problem! You can run 3-man lanes (if that's preferable to swapping). Team compositions are also a LOT more important in DotA than LoL, which unfortunately can sometimes make or break a game before it even starts.
I honestly love both games, and go into phases where I play one over the other (right now I'm in a LoL phase). They both have both good and bad aspects, but I will say that DotA in general is a lot more hardcore than LoL, no matter how you look at it.
EDIT Actually if there are any League players out there interested in getting into DotA, here is a very long but very good guide about the similarities and differences between the two

Lulz. I can't maintain interest in a video game for more than 20 hours on average. And that's dedication.C . wrote: a bit
