Plutonauts

Post by Lord Mercat » Mon Feb 23, 2015 11:10 pm

What is this? Lord Mercat's posting something? After, what several YEARS? :byzero:

Why, yes, yes I am. This is something I somehow neglected to post here, despite being made for brikwars. It was actually a small skirmish faction I made for a friend who requested: "Irradiated skeletal astronauts" as his faction theme. Declaring the idea suitably awesome, I went ahead and made it happen. Anyhow, without further ado, I present to you, The Plutonauts:

They come without warning and leave nothing but a measurable increase in the background radiation in their wake. They strike without any pattern or plan that can be discerned. They ride the solar winds as a school of piranhas rides the river currents. They have been dead for a long, long time.
Who were they? Were they early astronauts mutated by the unnatural radiations of space? Were they an experiment gone wrong? They appear to have been human, the skeletons visible beneath their tattered space suits making that quite clear. But if that is the case, why does radiocarbon dating of the bones of the rare slain specimen show them to be 1.3 billion years old?
They have no names for themselves. They have no names for anything. But we do. We call them Plutonauts.

Mnds are like parachutes. Just because you've lost yours doesn't mean you can borrow mine.

Wow I love the variety between each unit here, especially the one with the sword near the middle of the picture. :666:

That's the first thing I thought of! I'm so damn jealous that I didn't think of making an army like that...

Great work dude, I've added your post to the official brikwars subreddit:

Do want.

What exactly are the things on their backs for? Are they just storage units or something?

The packs on their backs are actually radiation containment units. At on point they would have powered the radiationn suit and kept large levels of radiation at bay. As of now, the suits have been somewhat modified to power the weapons of the plutonauts, but imperfectly. The fire bits represent radiactove waste spilling out of the suits. As a combat mechanic, these guys cause radiation poisoning to any figs who stay too close by.

That's cool; maybe when they get low on health or something they could commit a suicide attack that emits a burst of radiation, like the glowing ones in Fallout?
