Stockade Skirmish - Turn Four

Post by Kommander Ken » Mon Apr 13, 2015 10:27 am

Hey everyone, and welcome back to The Stockade Skirmish. It's been awhile, longer than I anticipated thanks to several class projects all happening at once, so I'll just throw in links to the first three turns for anyone to catch up on.

Turn One

Turn Two

Turn Three

Now let us begin!

Undead Sentinels (Lawmaster):

Image

The undead sentinels shamble out of their icy tomb and toward the unsuspecting Frostborne bowmen.

Image

One of the withered warriors takes a swing at the bowmen from behind.

Image

But fails his use roll and misses, startling the lone bowmen nearly out of his wits.

Image

Meanwhile another undead guy starts climbing the rickety ladder to the watchtower while the spearman approaches the startled bowman.

Image

The undead hero and heavy halberdier keep moving forward, only having the move to reach the mouth of the cave.

Norse Warriors (Scratch):

Image

Ivar and his warriors forge ahead, getting dangerously close to the stockade.

Image

The horse archers ignore everyone else and take cover behind the fallen pine, readying their bows.

Image

Frostborne bowman on the stockade walls unleash some response fire.

Image

The incoming damage is severe, but a redshirt dives in to take Ivar's place!

Image

Ivar skirts past the human pincushion and takes a deep breath while standing directly in front of the wagon.

Image

Like the Dovahkiin himself, he yells at the wagon with a powerful “GIVE ME LOOT!” shout, hoping it knock it away.

Image

The wagon doesn’t budge. Heroic feat failed by a roll of 1 to 2.

Image

Image

Image

Norse longbowmen take aim and fire at one of the Draklon swordsmen. The damage is ridiculous.

Frostborne Villagers (Sir Sporktimus):

Image

The three horse-tippers move back up behind their barricade.

Image

They string their bows and take aim.

Image

And kill another Draklon archer.

Image

Two of the more lightly-armed villagers break away from cover and run toward the stockade.

Image

Their sprint rolls give them both a few extra inches as they pass in front of the small woodcutter's hut.

Draklon Raiders (Silent-Sigfig)

Image

Lucer points with the tip of his sword to where Haldor disappeared under the river, trying to call out the enemy hero’s position for his men to fire at. Haldor is nowhere to be found, and the Draklon lose interest. There's no way the hero survived the frigid temperatures of the river, even as a Frostbornian. Heroic feat failed.

Image

Instead, the archers move and use their actions to pull the drowning macemen out. They manage to save them both with no trouble.

Image

Image

Draklon units move up across the river on both sides of the now useless bridge.

Image

A Frostborne villager uses his response action when an enemy comes in range, he thrusts his spear forward and gores the Draklon spearman.

Image

His victory however is short-lived as he is shot down by Draklon arrowfire, along with his buddy beside him(forgot to picture that bit).

Image

Response fire from a Frostborne warrior fails to do anything.

Image

The surviving Draklon champion takes an extended action to get up, finding himself in an awkward position.

Frostborne Warriors (Dienekes22):

Image

Two warriors move behind the unsuspecting horse rangers.

Image

They slash at the particularly unfavorable horsely parts, one of the warriors managing to wound a horse thanks to crit(guy closest to camera).

Image

This duo of warriors abandons the barricades and start retreating toward the stockade, one of them still weilding his spear.

Image

As he gets in range, he winds back-

Image

-and just barely misses his target, the spear burying itself in the ground by a horse.

Image

The icebreakers move toward the band of norsemen and ready themselves for some melee.

Image

The bowmen at the stockade fire at Ivar, but he brushes the arrows aside like matchsticks.

Image

Finally, Farcus and his underling rise groggily to their feet.

Image

Seeing the easy target, they move toward the champion who is struggling to his feet. The champion finds himself in an even more awkward position between to enemy factions.

Image

A bowman successfully shoves his attacker back two inches.

Image

Petrified by his undead enemy, he winds up crit-failing his attack and drops his bow.

Image

The bowmen on the tower turn around and fire at the undead sentinel, seeing it as a bigger threat for the moment.

Image

Critical damage rolls quickly bring it down off the ladder and back to the afterlife.

Somewhere above...

Image

The mountainside path was as treacherous as Ken remembers upon their descent some months ago. Perplexing as ever, some of the path he treaded on felt like wide snowy expanses that at times almost tricked him into believing he was on solid, flat ground. It was only the few times he dared to looked over the side that reminded him where he was. This behemoth of a mountain was a whole other world in itself, the hooded minifig had thought.

Image

He paused in his stride and peered onward, appearing puzzled despite the silly grin on his face. The mountainside was eerily quiet, not even the wind whistled against the hollowed formations of stone and earth. There was no sign of life, but to Ken this didn’t come as much of a surprise. The minifig rested a bit and leaned on his short, arming sword.

Image

“Where… are they?” Ken said to himself, looking off in all directions. Who knew how long he’d been up here, and there were still no signs of even a single Frostborne warrior. This was bad Ken knew, but with no knowledge of the struggle at the stockade below, it was probably worse than bad.

Image

No, not probably. It was definitely worse than bad.

Image

A snarl from behind him was enough to make Ken whirl around and rearm himself, only to come face to face with a great dire wolf.

“Oh, d-dear,” Ken gasped in dismay.

Image

The beast was probably stalking him a good while before finally deciding to show itself. The dire wolves, like their smaller cousins, were cunning hunters and nigh-impossible to spot when they didn’t want to be noticed. It took a single step closer to Ken, who in turn backed slowly to keep at least some kind of distance away from the creature.

“Oh hi, doggy,” Ken said, trying his best to sound unperturbed. The wolf could probably hear the anxiousness in his voice. “You wouldn’t happen to know where my friends are… would you?”

Image

The dire wolf bared it’s fangs and lowered itself to the ground, never taking those icy eyes from Ken’s tasty and oh-so fragile plastic body. It growled and Ken raised both his swords. He wasn’t very fluent in wolf-speak, but it was safe to assume the dire wolf had said ‘no’.

To be continued...

That head is such an improvement over the Chima model. Nicely done.. this whole battle has been great. Curious how it'll end up, but things are looking a little better for Frostborne what with our hero back on his feet.

Thanks! And yes, it's very exciting. Glad there's been plenty of decent destruction all around. Definitely can't wait to orchestrate the rest. :D

Ken should get fluent in Wolf speak quickly. He needs to make his entrance on the back of the beast.
