For some reason, seeing crosses on a BrikWars flag kind of bothers me. What does a cross symbolize in a BrikWars universe? Does the BrikVerse have room for Christians in it? We've got Rabtor Jesus and the NASA Jesus Clones, but the idea of minifigs worshipping someone for turning the other cheek is hard to swallow.
The closest thing we have to cross-worshipping is trianglism. Would it make sense to replace real-world crosses with triangles? Or maybe something more in line with the Church of Explosions, like an eight-pointed kaboom.

Most of these flags are mostly derived from IRL flags, tho. And the Orders insignia on the flag is a sword, rather than a cross:stubby wrote:For some reason, seeing crosses on a BrikWars flag kind of bothers me. EDIT: My main faction has quite some Kristian influences and I don't see, why Kristianity (and derivates) has no place in the BrikVerse, while Judaism seems to fit in, quite well.
Yeah, I could have went for Triangulism or KaBoom, but both are, for my taste, quite one-sided and bland representations of religion as a bunch of fanatics, that want to destroy everyone and everything, that won't agree with them.
The Church of the Great Creator, while it does not always get along with other religions, like Cthulism, is actually far less extreme in that regard, compared to the two examples, mentioned before.

Oh yeah, I can definitely get behind that one.Duerer wrote:And the Orders insignia on the flag is a sword, rather than a cross
Everything in BrikWars is derived from IRL something, we just BrikWars-ize it a little.Duerer wrote:Most of these flags are mostly derived from IRL flags, tho.
I'm not saying I don't like your flags, I was just thinking to myself mostly. I've thought some about which BrikWars religions correspond to which modern-day religions, but I never gave much thought to what that would have looked like historically. It seems like a really interesting thing to think about, and then to think about what it would do to the inherited symbols that end up in flags. The same as how the Red Cross turned into the Red Crescent when it went to the middle east - same basic message, but using a different symbolic alphabet.
The TTSJ just represent ethnic and cultural Judaism as far as I can tell; I never got the impression that they incorporated religious practice in any way. I could be wrong about that. Mainly I think they came into existence because so many wargamers get way-too-suspiciously-excited about making Piltogg factions.Duerer wrote:EDIT: My main faction has quite some Kristian influences and I don't see, why Kristianity (and derivates) has no place in the BrikVerse, while Judaism seems to fit in, quite well.
I guess I don't see the distinction. This sounds like every IRL religion I ever met.Duerer wrote:Yeah, I could have went for Triangulism or KaBoom, but both are, for my taste, quite one-sided and bland representations of religion as a bunch of fanatics, that want to destroy everyone and everything, that won't agree with them.
I guess my real question is about the cross itself - why is a cross the symbol of the Great Creator? When a Great Creator nation uses a cross on its flag, what does that symbol mean to them? Did the Great Creator send down a divine incarnation that got crucified? If so, what did it symbolize? There's just so much lore possibility to explore here.Duerer wrote:The Church of the Great Creator, while it does not always get along with other religions, like Cthulism, is actually far less extreme in that regard, compared to the two examples, mentioned before.

Re: Lego doodles POST THEM
I forgot about this, but for a couple years I was trying to make the Dimmies into a kind of mystery-religion analogue for Christianity - I used to make a lot of pictures of Dimmies getting crucified, but none of them ended up turning out well enough to show. It was less in the Jesus sense of crucifixion, and more in the sense of Wotan's self-crucifixion on the World Tree or the crucifixion of the Hanged Man in the Tarot.
Maybe I'll start another painting in that vein, because I just had a good idea. Where a Timmy would crucify itself on a giant "t," a Dimmy would crucify itself on a "d" instead... because that's how you get "d"-ified.

Actually one of the reason, I've built a Polish faction in the first place.stubby wrote:Mainly I think they came into existence because so many wargamers get way-too-suspiciously-excited about making Piltogg factions.
Well, I can understand, how fundamentalism seems to be a problem in North America, yet I didn't encounter similar cases here in Europe, yet. Here, people don't really care about religious matter or even make fun of them, but I'm not hell-bent on convincing them of my point of view.stubby wrote:I guess I don't see the distinction. K, that's actually a good one. I wanted to flesh out both the faith of the Great Creator and the Church as an institution a bit more, at some point.stubby wrote:I guess my real question is about the cross itself - why is a cross the symbol of the Great Creator? Does the Brikverse have room for Christians (this wordbuttplug is funny anymore, Natalya)?
No, it actually doesn't. Really. The Bible (New Testament, of course) just contrasts too greatly with the morals of the Brikverse.
But, one can exploit loopholes: Create a different meaning for the cross or symbol you're using.
Case and point:

This is a Jerusalem Cross or the Crusader's Cross. It was created and worn by Godfrey of Boullion during the First Crusade. It's meaning is as thus: The large cross represents Christ, and the four smaller ones are the four corners of the world.
Now change this: The large cross is now representing the Yellow race, or of Triangulism or what have you. The other four crosses could now be like the arms of a country's government, military, or the practices of a religion. This goes on and so forth.

Re: Lego doodles POST THEM
Any reason it's a lowercase d? With the Dimmy hanging upside down it looks like it should be a p. Also if you use an uppercase D, the arms could go along the straight line and the curve could still go around the head for the "halo" effect.
