I love these guys.

Hell of a demand, though, right? A quarter mil funded in 53 minutes. More than doubled that first day. Shit shows no sign of slowing. I'll always be blown away by just how successful successful kickstarters are.

Yes! It looks like Battletech is being cool again. Even if only loved by its 80s-90s worshippers, but I really think the way they're reworking the theme with a more modern feel might bring some new folks in.

Yeah, and Catalyst Games has made an excellent job with the new intro boxes! Everything you could need to play (and more) for a very good price. I'm thinking of getting one by Manly Santa Day and see if the game still lives among TCGs and Warmachine in the hobby stores closest to me. Otherwise it's a great buy by itself nonetheless. :asterios:

Mechwarrior first came up as the RPG for the Battletech universe. Much like Rogue Trader for 40K.

Then it evolved to video games and WizKids' take on the franchise with their Clix system.

But it's mostly how mech pilots are known.

I played Mechassault 2 when I was younger, and remember how fun it was. I wish I had a few thousand dollars to give to this project.

I'm a millennial and I dig battletech. Not even for the mechs, I dig it for the tanks and infantry tactics and the whole space politics thing. I've dug it since like, 2006. I think it was because it was reasonably hard scifi and young me had a long train commute to school and had to read books for 2 hours a day to pass the time.

Mechs and politics are my favorites in this universe, but what I meant is that most folks backing this up are probably from that time period. Of course that with this latest Kickstarter attempt and the success of MWO, this has been changing and new blood is getting into the franchise.

It did! Kickstarter was a major success and it'll probably see first light next year. They managed to fund a mercenary campaign, missions and Solaris VII PVP multiplayer I believe.

You can still play the Battletech games, both obviously in real life and also over the internet using the various board-games-over-IP systems. The latter is superior IMO since the computers do the math for you, so it isn't so much trouble to make your 30 infantrymen shoot rockets at a Battlemech while orbital strikes are happening in other parts of the same mountain range.

That is true, but systems like Megamek also have some getting-used-to before you can play at full speed.
