Of course it's always more complicated than that. As a whole, I agree with you that this referendum was supposed to be some political maneuver to calm down the euroskeptic Tories that got out of hand. I remember reading a few month ago in the Canard enchainé (the only quality newspaper left in France) that the referendum was going to be a mere formality and that we ALL knew that the brits would stay, right ?dilanski wrote:I don't know what the European rags are writing, but it is a bit more complex than that.
NI only voted 55/45 to stay, hardly the landslide seen in Scotland, which on the topic of them, knew about the possibility of leaving in the EU in this referendum, when they did their last referendum for Independence. London declaring independence is a good one, but it's a change.org petition, so can go straight into the garbage where it belongs.
As for the leave supporters believing that immigration is hurting them, it is because immigration is undeniably hurting them. Sure for the country as a whole immigration is a net positive, but for the people in impoverished areas with low skill, low pay jobs, immigration is having a noticeable negative impact on their lives. I am not even tinfoiling here, we even used to have a fund to give money to areas where immigration was occurring to, but then that pig fucker Cameron set his old bumming pal George Osborne loose at the treasury and that fund went up in smoke.
Anyway, treating the UK like a failed state because it has left Europe is reactionary scaremongering of the highest order.

I honestly hope that credence is paid to that first point. While I did vote remain, it could of gone either way for me, and there are certainly other voters in a similar position. When the EU is an organisation with a long and storied history of being the least democratic body around, I can only wonder what deeper integration would mean. Given the announcement of an EU army (originally to be kept secret until after this referendum, no less), I have to scratch my head as to where the EU is going.Castlebravo wrote:Anyhow, if you really want to know how is the media coverage here, well it's not really focused on the consequences for the UK and the vote itself, it's quite eurocentric in fact. There are two main current right now :
- The one who says that it's time to reform the EU, because a)the UK left for a reason
