Does the Avenger use a gun or a direct-fire launcher?

It's a gun. I considered a launcher and adding munitions to the turret like you do with yours but i looked up the launcher rules and didn't like them at all.

Can the gun aim upwards? Because on mine, it keeps flopping down and it's a bit annoying.

Welcome back. To answer your question, yes it can! It can point about 40 degrees upward and a little down as well.
I used this kind of click hinge, they hold quite some weight. Try different ones. I found the first one i used was a a little lose
so the gun drooped down noticably.

What elements do you utilise to elevate and depress your guns?

I am using blue technic pins for my main tank, this usually works on all my others, but I suppose the gun is quite a bit heavier, I'll go and try your way.
