Mirthanese Historical Factions

Post by militaryfreak » Fri Sep 15, 2017 12:12 am

A medley of factions from different points in Mirthanese history

Eastern Clans of Mirthan

when Mirthan was discovered, it was inhabited by clans similar to feudal Japan. Such clans were led by Daimyos constantly fighting for power. Mirthan had no official government. Armies varied greatly with samurai and ashigaru forces utilizing a variety of weaponry. while there is some variation by clan, the eastern clans are often associated with the color red.

Western Clans of Mirthan

Armies varied greatly with samurai and ashigaru forces utilizing a variety of weaponry. while there is some variation by clan, the western clans are often associated with the color black.

Early Mirthan 1600-1700s

When Eastern clans unified with German colonists, the Kingdom of Mirthan was born. Armies varied widely in terms of weaponry and equipment. German mercenaries bolstered the ranks and brought Matchlock Arquebuses. The Mirthanese army was able to find much success against the other feudal clans, carving out a swathe of territory.

Kingdom of Mirthan 1700s-1800sThe Mirthanese military was increasingly modernized as European military advances slowly made it to the isolated kingdom. However a large portion of the military was still composed of irregular forces, such as samurai or desert militia. Mirthan's mineral resources provided ample fuel for industry, allowing for equipment on par with that of Europe.

Eastern French Army 1790
Image
The French controlled a large portion of Eastern Mirthan, which they had earned from the Dutch after the War of Spanish Succession. Despite a hard fought effort, the French army was just too isolated from their mainland, and with the chaos of the French Revolution back home, France ultimately lost Eastern Mirthan to the Mirthanese in 1801

Kingdom of Mirthan 1800s-1850s

Inspired by the modern French army, Mirthan went to lengths to improve its military. new uniforms and more "fashionable" hats. Caplock muskets and improved artillery. no longer did the army rely on desert irregulars, or samurai from local clans. The Mirthanese through conquest and diplomacy, unified the entire island.

Kingdom of Mirthan 1850s to 1910s

Mirthan continued to keep pace with the Europeans. New bolt-action and lever-action rifles, both locally made and imported, became a mainstay. Breech loading artillery, and Maxim guns made Mirthan a powerful, but isolated, state. After a failed upheaval by local daimyos the samurai age finally died out. Mirthan found success alongside its Japanese allies during the Sino-japanese war and the Russo-Japanese war

Imperial Russian Siberian Army 1904
Image
The Siberian Russian army opposed Japanese ownership of Korea which inevitably led to war. The Russian army was poorly equipped and wholly unprepared to fight a war in Asia. The Russians ultimately lost the war. The first time a European power lost to an Asian power in history

Kingdom of Mirthan 1910-1930s

by the 1900's Mirthan was a major trade partner with the US, French, Russians, and British. When WW1 broke out the British appealed to Mirthan and Japan to halt German raiding in China. Mirthanese troops would later be sent to the Middle East to fight the Ottomans. Mirthanese forces took part in the Dardanelles and Mesopotamia campaigns primarily.

Ottoman Imperial Army 1916

Image
The Ottoman empire had long been known as the "sick man" of Europe. constantly in decline, ww1 finally broke the empire. By the end of the war, the Ottoman army was in dire straits in terms of equipment quality and morale. despite a victory at Gallipoli, it lost the majority of its territory to the British Empire.

Kingdom of Mirthan 1930-1945
Image
With both Japanese and German roots, Mirthan was perfect fit for the Axis powers. As an ally of Japan, the Mirthanese had garrisons present on many islands across the pacific. displeased with Japanese craftsmanship, the Mirthanese chose to adopt German made equipment. the German Reich gave the Mirthanese many blueprints for domestic production. While the mirthanese lacked the famed heavy tanks and mechanized divisions of Germany, their forces did give US marines quite a shock.

United States Marine Corps 1945

Image
The US Marine Corps were famous for their exploits across the pacific. from tiny atolls, to Islands like Okinawa, The marines were the first in to take the fight to the Japanese. While initially shocked by the Mirthanese military's German weaponry, their toughness and firepower allowed them to overcome, taking most outlying Mirthanese islands. With the Mirthanese navy and air force destroyed, and army suffering shortages of everything, Mirthan to capitulated weeks before the Japanese surrender

Post-ww2 Mirthanese Army 1945-1970

Image
Following ww2, the US founded a democratic style government in Mirthan. a large quantity of ww2 surplus found its way to Mirthan. some of the equipment remained in service until 1990!

Southern Communist Rebels 1960-1970
Image
In 1960 the shunned prince Kirschtein II sponsored a USSR backed revolution. Rebel forces recieved plentiful aid in the form of ww2 surplus, T55 MBTs, AK-47's etc. the war ended in 1963 after threat of USSR intervention.

South Mirthanese Peoples Republic 1970-1989
Image
Following the 1960s civil war. Mirthan would become a cold war battlefield between South Mirthan and North Mirthan. The South Adopted communist views and allied with the USSR. in 1984 South Mirthan's poor communist army was obliterated by the North Mirthanese. Which led to the collapse of Communism in South Mirthan

North Mirthan 1970-1990
Image
in the 1960s Mirthan broke up after a short civil war. Mirthan would become a cold war battlefield between South Mirthan and North Mirthan. The North Adopted capitalist views and allied with the USA. in 1984 North Mirthan's US-supplied army obliterated the weak soviet-backed South Mirthanese army

Kingdom of South Mirthan 1990-2005
Image
After the collapse of communism, Laissez Faire policy made South Mirthan rich. The money allowed for the creation of a high tech and modern army. Japanese allies overjoyed by the refounding of Mirthan as North Mirthans facist policy had fallen out of favor in the 80’s. Cruise missiles, thermal imaging, smart bombs etc. The South Mirthanese kept up with every innovation. In 1999 they crossed the border and smashed the North Mirthanese army, which hadn't been updated much since the last war.

North Mirthan 1990-2000
Image
After such a stunning victory in 1984, the US believed North Mirthan to be fully competent against its communist foe in the South. Because of this, the US provided little aid over the next 2 decades. The North Mirthanese updated their equipment only slightly. Replacing jeeps and other older vehicles. Its 70's era army was completely outmatched by the Souths modern army in the 1999 conflict.

South Mirthan 2005-present
Image
The modern South Mirthanese army is a true force to be reckoned with. Modern army, laser-guided weapons, computers, UAVs and more are all local developments leaving the country with self-sufficent defense. The South Mirthanese army is on par with any North American or European army

North Mirthan 2005-present
Image
Following its disastrous defeat, the North Mirthanese army received major aid from the US in the coming months. Its army is now roughly equal to the South in terms of firepower. However it suffers from poor leadership and lack of manpower. However as it continues to intervene in neighboring countries officers and troops are slowly gaining experience. but despite renewed conscription laws, most experts believe that "weight of numbers" will continue to swing in the Souths favor for the foreseeable future.

This is really cool. Now what you need to do is do a bunch of historical battles, or even better, pit historical forces against modern ones!

Dang, wish I could dedicate more resources into historic subfactions for my lore. Then again, lots of my units still resort to traditional tactics...
Great job on these, anyway.
