The Tenth Initiative
So since the BrikWars forums just turned ten last month I was thinking back on how I've seen them change over the years (I've lurked since late 2009 so I've seen a lot). What I realized is that, while it's not dying, the forums certainly seem less lively than they used to be. Therefore, I propose each of us make a New Year's Resolution to adopt what I call "The Tenth Initiative". The idea is simple, just mention BrikWars to ten people/communities/whatever in an effort to boost our profile and bring in some new people. Got a friend into wargaming? Mention us! Belong to an AFOL community? Mention us! Our main problem seems to be that we have a very low profile, I myself only found this site through a brief mention on Eurobricks, who knows how many other people would love the site and just aren't aware it exists? Let's make the next ten years even better than the last!

I know just about no one, and those I know aren't into this type of thing, but if I meet some like-minded individuals, I will be sure to tell them. Even though I live in Belgium so they will only speak French.

Brikwars used to be pretty high-profile in the lego community, with a home on LUGNET, NELUG and other groups. Not sure why that hasn't persisted into the modern era. Any ideas?

6. In-person Lego meetups aren't as big a part of the hobby anymore, now that there's Skype and Discord and digital photography for sharing stuff online, and there are now dozens of major Lego internet communities rather than just the one. So where BrikWars used to be a central activity and an event you'd travel to and talk afterwards about getting together, now it's mostly Lego photos online competing with other Lego photos online.dilanski wrote:Brikwars used to be pretty high-profile in the lego community, with a home on LUGNET, NELUG and other groups. 7. BrikWars keeps getting bigger, slowly, but everything Lego in general has gotten bigger, fastly. Our profile is still where it was but everything else has exploded.
8. 2010 was a long time ago. New versions and major updates create a lot of hype and excitement, but the effect fades after awhile.
With that in mind, I wonder if 2018 is the year to publish finally. I'm free from my obligations to Lego for the first time in a decade, the freelance market is strong right now, and I can live off severance for awhile to get this thing moving.

Do you mean publish as in a complete version, or publish as in a physical book to hold in our cheeto stained hands?stubby wrote:With that in mind, I wonder if 2018 is the year to publish finally. Both of those things. Lots to discuss in that regard; I'll go start a separate thread about it eventually.dilanski wrote:Do you mean publish as in a complete version, or publish as in a physical book to hold in our cheeto stained hands?stubby wrote:With that in mind, I wonder if 2018 is the year to publish finally.
