so I'm working on an army and I want to work on 3 warships-a 20-gunned frigat and two 10-gunned galleons. My problem is, I don't have enough pieces and i'm very bad at ship building.
My army is unstoppable!

erm...?
might i suggest telling us what you want us to do about that?
i'm pretty confident when i say that nobody here is going to lend you their legos for your extra parts.
if you can't build ships, why do want an army full of them?
stick to something you know.

by the way, welcome to brikwars!

Basically, what he ^ said. If you really want to try though, then there are a few things you can do to better yourself.

1. Look up tutorials on complex building styles, i.e. SNOT, etc. There are hundreds online, and most of them will help to some degree.

2. Look at ships that have already been built by your peers. This forum itself just had a SHIP contest a while ago. This stuff should serve as inspiration and teach you basic ship buildibg techniques.

3. Practice practice practice. Download Lego digital designer, or if you are up to the challenge, Ldraw (I still haven't figured out how to use that one though :( ), and build with those virtual bricks to get the right styles you want. This helps as there are (theoretically) infinite bricks with which to build in these programs.

4. If you are amazingly rich, you can just buy your models straight off of LDD, but they jack up the price almost two-fold. If you are normal, just spend money on regular lego sets like crazy until you have all the pieces you need. Lego is a fun hobby, but if you want the big guns, it's hella expensive. I spend roughly $300 on Lego a year, and have been doing so for the last 13 years of my life, and I barely have enough bricks for two SHIPs. It is doable on a budget though - just buy the sets that contain the pieces you need for the project at hand.

5. If all else fails, follow steps 1-3 and then build your end product in mini scale. Mini figs won't fit inside, but you can get a lot more bang for your buck, and they are still usable in brikwars with some modification.

I hope this helps and does not discourage your plan at all. The first step in completing any objective is wanting to complete the objective. Si se puede!

or like most don't try to build to scale!
minimise it down so its not to scale but is a good repsentation
