Triangle Wizard
Ever since booty bothered started here at the office, about 90% of my time at work is spent listening to her talk about NetHack.
So today I was poking around over on RogueBasin and discovered the recent addition of a NetHack variant called Triangle Wizard, which looks like what would happen if the Triangle Pope dropped a NetHack level into the Geometry Wars engine.
I figured some here (pegasaurus) might be interested in doing some reconnaissance and reporting back about this important development in Trianglism.

This is where Wouter van den Wollenberg went wrong:
Maltar: [...] I remembered a little saying I learned my first day at the academy.
Natalie: Yeah, yeah, I know. Winners never quit and quitters never win.
Maltar: What? No! Winners never quit and quitters should be cast into the flaming pit of death.

Really? You're promoting a game developed by a quitter*? For shame, Rayhawk! Let's consult the Nethack database for the term "quitter" and see how Nethack feels about this:I initially started with a complex text-based game based on D&D rules, but I quickly abandoned it

So, he removed complex mechanisms because he sucks at it. And he's a filthy quitter. Not to mention that making it real time takes away from the entire essence of Nethack. This is not a nethack variant. It's a game that takes the idea of displaying monsters as letters (which would more accurately be described as a Roguelike feature rather than uniquely Nethack) while bastardizing the very essence of what makes Nethack, Nethack. So I decided to make a hack 'n slash game using letters as monsters, but make it a real time game instead. I also removed some of the more complex mechanisms from NetHack such as fountains (including the wishes), pit traps and the need for sustenance. Getting rid of the bitmaps freed me of the task of creating my own which was boring (not to mention that I tended to suck at it)
Blasphemy. @ or GTFO!The result is Triangle Wizard, named after the main character who is (the only person not to be represented by a letter) represented by a triangle

Wow! Sounds like serious business! But I think I'll wait for the Trianglists' verdict.booty bothered wrote:So, he removed complex mechanisms because he sucks at it. And he's a filthy quitter. I lost as soon as I started level 2, after completing the long tutorial and finishing the 1st level easily.

Nethack that isn't nethack, eh?
What makes nethack nethack is how disgustingly cruel it is. Make one filthy mistake and you're dead. You just killed a cockatrice, eh? better make sure you don't accidentally TRIP OVER THE CORPSE AND TURN TO STONE. May the gods have mercy on your soul should you be blinded.

Plastik Armory: a bunch of weapons and abilities compatible with the 2010 rules.
Stormzen: Ah fond memories! I used to have a lot of fun with my stoning grenades. For some reason (conducts, I suppose) I stopped polymorphing myself intentionally. I do have a =oPC in my current game, methinks I will stock up on cockatrice eggs to throw around! Thanks for reminding me of this!
