Oh hey! I had buckets of those that I stole from my Computer Engineering class last semester! I also had a buttload of resistors.

I used to have a whole bunch of electronic kits and stuff when I was a kid, but they were really just boxes of my dad's old wires and motors from various broken-down appliances. I had a lot of fun with those little lights and things.
here, here. i loved those things! all the cool sounds and lights and other electronics..........
Holy shit, I'm still here?

Yup. All you need is a bunch of old wires, batteries, and an old VCR and you can have fun making crap for a week.

I have recognized some visits on my web site www.josefnav.cz from this forum, so if you have some questions to LED lights, let's write them!
But please apologize my english, I'm not so strong in languages
Ah, you appear! Thank you, and I extend my congratulations to you for building that nice station. Oh, and do not despair, this is a technical discussion; not much English here!

Basically, I want to know exactly how you went about building the train station that had working lampposts. If you are still worried about not being understood due to language barriers, a visual, such as photos of how you built those things, ought to do fine. Of course, I fear that lighting up a whole city is going to be a great deal harder and more expensive than just a train station, but you have to start somewhere!

Manly Santa Day. LIGHTS.

They come in single-bulb bunches too. Just string em up, and run em through buildings. You might be able to make em into streetlamps, but it'd be easier to just have window lights and the like.

Except that, you know, I was asking how to do streetlamps, and for that, 3mms would be better.

Hello, I've done some photos, you're right, it's better than text. I use 12 yellow LEDs (3mm), 3 resistors (current protection), switch (ON/OFF) and 9V battery.

1) In buildings are brick with LEDs - you must drill holes.

2) Light on

3) Detail of brick with LED

4) Location in the building

5) 9V battery, black box contains resistors and switch

6) Electronics is hide in the smallest building, there is also one another black box (is used to control train, which go through the station)

7) Street lamp

8 ) Street lamp, but I can't disassemble it more without damage

9) Street lamp

Those pictures were very informative; thank you. I now have just a few questions.

1) Do 3mm LEDs normally fit inside the piece that looks like a transparent minifig head, or do you need to alter the piece to make them fit?
2) Do the 3mms fit inside the hollow cylinder pieces? It looks like they might.
3) Considering that I know you altered some other bricks to make the model work (by drilling holes in the studs, it appears), how easy is it to do so without making them break and be unusable?

Your work looks great. Congratulations.

Now an overview pic of all lighting, with your room's lights turned off, would be a pwner.

You could use the glow-in-the-dark pieces from some Megablocks set...I used to have a whole bunch of those.

It is not necessary to damage LEGO parts (drill, glue etc.), but it is better when LEDs are in bricks. It is more comfortable for building, it looks better etc...
And LEDs fit very good inside the hollow cylinder pieces and transparent minifig head, without any modification.
