So both are Mon Cal Crusiers then but the top Mon Cal with the side wings (for want of a better term) is a custom job being Ackbars Flag, have I got it right yet?

Actually the one with "wings" is a normal Mon Cal cruiser the straight one is the Home One, which is Ackbar flagship. However if I remember right sometime after the battle of Endor Ackbar got a new flagship that was bigger, but I'm not sure cause I can't find my Star Wars guide to vehicle and vessels.

Well mate I've learned something new also so it just goes to show, eh?
I still think if I bought this set I would feel compelled to make the rest or at least try to make the rest of the ship but I doubt I could manage it.
