So has anyone heard of or played this <a href="http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/ ... ">game?</a>
I got it for Manly Santa Day this year, have played it 3 times so far, and can attest to the amount of pure and unadulterated ass that it kicks. It's so fucking epic. There are ten different races (including space pirates, space marines, space cult-people, telepathic snake ladies, space bugs, space dark elves, space gollums, space cyborg zombies, technocratic fish robot people, and space turtle diplomats), each with their own unique abilities. You build fleets of 6 different kinds of ships, not to mention ground forces (for planetary acquisition), space docks and planetary defense systems. It involves politics, trade, and awesome motherfucking space warfare.
No, it does not involve teenage vampires that fucking glitter.

Discuss.

I played the original edition - which is from what I've heard from the internet, the vastly superior edition - mostly due to "Quests" which was something I think was introduced in the third edition - most of which are supposed to be impossible to do, and just made the game a garbled mess.

But yeah - the box art is pretty. =D

That's at the top of my wish list, I've been wanting to pick this up for a long time, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I've been buying board games faster than I've been able to play them lately.

Hrm, it could be done - but the board is made out of randomly placed hexes that make up a total galaxy, with planets, stars, black holes, asteroids and other funky stuff.

As for the ships, I can't remember the classes any more. =S

You could use squares and attach them like they do in brickquest.

I have no idea what you're on about with "quests," as there are no such thing in this game. This is the third edition, which, from every review I've found, is vastly superior to either of the first two. Perhaps the second edition had quests?

Yeah, it was literally on my Xmiss list 4 years in a row. This year, I wised up and made it the ONLY thing on my list. Needless to say, this is the year Santa did me a solid.
Also, I would readily recommend this to ANYone with any inkling toward well-developed sci-fi universes and/or strategy games at all. Upon playing it 3 times (losing to my girlfriend once), it has quickly become my favorite board game of all time, surpassing Settlers of Catan, even with all the expansions included.
