The Death Bowl is a lower rent and more accessible death game that is broadcast from the Doom Moon of Dis by Dissonance Industries and Entertainment. It's a meat grinder of a competition that draws all sorts from across the BrikVerse who willingly engage in gladiatorial style death matches in order to obtain wealth, fortune, or glory. In addition to the live broadcasts (where Far-Ums subscribers and paid up VIP members receive all sorts of behind the scenes goodies and statistics as well as access to gambling rings, media forums, and fantasy leagues), the show also draws a regular live audience. While the show has a cult following, it has nowhere near the popularity that high budget shows like Tower of Justice have. It can be likened to backyard wrestling or monster truck rallies in this regard.
The Death Bowl actually consists of several different types of games, which all take place in the same arena. Sometimes modifications, called Complications, are made to the arena for a specific event but, for the most part, the arena is constant. Two of the most popular games are SportsBall and KillZone. Each has its own dedicated set of rules that utilizes the arena setup in different ways. Characters who participate in the games, as well as their Sponsors, are all ranked and compared on a regularly updated Leaderboard.
The Death Bowl format was originally conceived as an experimental foray into the viability of using digital software, as opposed to actual bricks, to run chat battles for purposes of accommodating hosts with space, time, or construction toy constraints. A single, MOBA-like map was created for use in these battles. Various hosts can utilize the prebuilt arena to run games at a moment's notice, loading in pre-generated characters as needed. The format was introduced on the LDD Subforum in March 2015. As of March 2015, concerns over the use of the software being able to match the appropriate pace of a chat battle have yet to be addressed. Due to its narrative subtext, the Death Bowl games are associated with The Chronicles of Doom clusterfic.
