Re: (List of) Quantumsurfers and their properties
Quantum Surfers are like the ascended beings on the Star Gate tv show.
A human shows how selfless and awesome he/she is and then they get moved up.
Except in the Brikverse, its pretty much the opposite.
The only way you get in is to make the story yourself, with pictures or it doesn't count, of you becoming a QuantumSurfer.
Or getting into a story that someone else makes.

Looking at this list pretty much everyone is assumed to have one; just do stuff with your sigfig and it'll eventually integrate into the big picture I guess.

If you can write your bio, you can post it here.mercury19 wrote:Is it too bold to say that I aspire to be on this list? Or perhaps to sad? Idk, either way I've got plans for Mercury the 19th, quantumsurfer extraordinaire!
The numbering of some characters in that list is me for Wheel of Death. I wanted to keep it at 13 for it's connotations of bad luck.
Not everyone, just notable forum members and other cases I find interesting (namely the cloud of shitgoats I unearthed because the Addherents of Ad'Min need something to fight) because then there would be too many quantumsurfers to juggle around and the QS crap would be even further devalued (people would stop caring, etc.).Zahru II wrote:Looking at this list pretty much everyone is assumed to have one; just do stuff with your sigfig and it'll eventually integrate into the big picture I guess.

Re: (List of) Quantumsurfers and their properties
They always reminded me of the Q from Star Trek. Pretty much the same powers, same alternate home dimension concept, same group concept. But more like de Lancie's Q since the rest of the continuum is fairly stagnant. Actually, no, more like a handful of de Lancies and then a Continuum carbon copy.
Zahru seems to have the right of it in the community kanon sense. At some point, it became easier to fit the sometimes awkward "sigfig" concept (is this a character I use a lot? a character I really like? a representation of me? a representation of my forum personality? what?) into the QS! storyline and call it a day. A standardized extended version Author Avatar structure comes with its own ready made lore, is automatically ironic and self-deprecating for the sake of humor, and also comes with a built in vagueness that allows displaying respect and admiration for another forum personality without actively resorting to a full blown circlejerk. Vami's list here is just his personal alternate take on the idea. Which is cool because of two things. First and foremost, that the verse is multifaceted and all inclusive. Of course, see the first point to see why an explanation is fun but not entirely necessary for our narrative purposes.Silverdream wrote:Of course, because time is irrelevant to Quantum Surfers, and realities only exist within the memories of Quantum Surfers, those who aren't remembered don't exist. Ever. This also explains why different, often contradictory narratives exist about them.

So I was writing in this thread and neglected to click "log me in automatically" at the log in panel.

Re: (List of) Quantumsurfers and their properties
Used to happen to me all the time, cause I'm needlessly verbose. I tried writing in word for a time but I'm also lazy and that was very mildly inconvenient. Now, I just make sure to copy to clipboard whatever long post I'm writing so if it logs me out, I can just paste it right back in. Like making a habit of quicksaving or whatever.
Re: (List of) Quantumsurfers and their properties
I usually write everything down in a word document and paste the whole thing into the post, add some pictures afterwards and perform some minor tweeks on the script when needed. In case something should be lost online, I can always pull out my word script and easily repost lost content.

Here's one written by Mercury, grats:
mercury19 wrote:Thanks man, I just got my internet back so here's an info dump on Mercury. I took the liberty of borrowing your format.
Mercury
Mercury’s preferred self-description is “jackass”; one of his more common attempts to get people to laugh through self-deprecation. He is constantly seeking attention, acceptance and affection from those around him, a seemingly endless quest due to his belief that everyone secretly hates him. He is socially inept, constantly misinterpreting social cues and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. He simultaneously believes himself to be far superior to everyone, yet at the same time sees everyone around him as larger than life, someone to be looked up too. He also has the attention span of a puppy in a park, which has led to many half-finished schemes across the Brikverse. Mercury is given to soliloquies, a result of his over thinking of everything ever. Another of his defining features is his compulsion to make references, to anything and everything. He will never pass up a chance to make a reference, even if people don’t understand them. He will even make references to things he hasn’t seen or read if he hears someone else make the reference and he likes it. This behavior is a result of his extremely addictive and obsessive personality; he will latch onto something, run it into the ground and beat the dead horse into oblivion. He doesn’t test the waters very often, instead diving in headfirst, often deeper than the person who introduced him to it.
Appearance
Mercury’s preferred outfit is a utility vest worn over a tank top, leaving him sleeveless, black pants, a balaclava, a pair of katanas, and a fedora. He stubbornly insists that the fedora is not indicative of his tendency towards idiocy, but more of his adventurous spirit a la Indiana Jones. Most people don’t agree with him.
Abilities
Mercury likes to borrow ideas from whatever his latest obsession is, whether it be an anime or a musical about Alexander Hamilton. He has lightning reflexes, senses like a master martial artist, and quicksilver speed. He is adept in electrical manipulation, from tossing lightning bolts to creating dramatic thunderstorms. Sometimes he can fly, depending on his latest obsession and how he’s feeling. In fact, other than the above mentioned abilities, his repertoire is entirely dependant on his latest addiction. This can make him hard to plan against.
Weaknesses
Mercury’s variable abilities are just as much a weakness as a strength. It can leave him ill prepared to deal with some opponents. If an opponent can recognize the abilities Mercury is borrowing and knows the counter to them, he’s out of luck. While he won’t admit it, he also has a tendency for monologuing and has been caught off guard mid speech before. His massive ego is mostly hot air, and if someone calls him out on a false fact or a foolish statement, he will deflate almost immediately. This either causes him to become angry and reckless or listless and unmotivated, which makes him much easier to deal with.
Relationships
Mercury is mostly below the radar, and looks up at the other quantumsurfers as giants and gods. Sometimes he considers himself intellectually equal or even above the others, but as soon he opens his mouth he regrets it and apologizes profusely. When dealing with plain minifigs, he attempts, with mixed results, to put himself on a pedestal. His primary belief is that everyone secretly hates him, which puts a large block in the way of any relationships he tries to form. That and his general introversion.
