Transforming mecha?

Post by PrimalAge » Mon May 31, 2010 3:18 pm

I was watch a series call Robotech a while back and I had always wanted to make my own transforming fighter/mech and put it in Brikwar just for fun and this is what I got.

I call it an OMNI tech fighter because (FLUFF) it uses OMNI tech to do all of its crazy ass shit

Image
Above is a fighter with all of the possible additions that it can have (up to 12" worth active at all times)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Image
Same fighter but with mounted missiles and detachable gun drones (the large mounted gun and sword at the front can not be used right now so are ignored at the moment)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Image
In this tactical mode almost all weapons are now available including the originally mounted gun and sword with are now in hand, less of a size restriction is imposed as flight is very limited by the seemingly clumsy configuration (mostly hovering is done in this mode)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Image
In full mecha mode this unit now has access to all weapons including one extra on the head (this is point defense nothing more) more armour, walking only with a wicked jump, and pilot is nearly fully protected

unfortunately i don't have any Lego to speak of in order to create any thing so for the moment i am surfing BrickLink and using LDD till i get the Lego's please rant on how horrible this is.

It's pretty awesome. Does it transform full into the mech mode? It looks like you did a bit of taking apart, but that could just be me.

Ok, this does look awesome but only in LDD, I have grave doubts as to wither it would stand or function if it was real. Those hinged knees would be near useless with that weight but I have been wrong, from time to time.

And that my friend is the problem in a nutshell with LDD. Design over practicality and failing to learn what will work and what can't.

yes LDD has its problems as for the mecha I knew it would never hold under its own weight so i planed of mounting it to a podium or stand this however would only solve a few problems and not all, and because LDD does not have stronger joints like what some of the larger mecha posted war machines have I'm stuck with what I got however in real Lego this design will be refined and redone to help accommodate these problems.

As for earlier yes, this robot is completely transformable using only the rotate tool in LDD. When I make something that i say will transform the only things that I will ever make detach are some the the weapon systems as seen up top in the first picture.

as for my avatar I tried to put a custom on up but I could not so I will not re-size the image and change to it you may have your old site list default avatar back that a few other people are also probably using but have never posted yet so you don't know if other have the avatar or not.
