Steampunk siege engine

Post by ikensall » Sat Oct 23, 2010 1:06 pm

The standard MkII "Hammerhead" siege engine is often used as the head vehicle in a convoy or as a mobile artillery piece for (DUH) a siege.

The frontal armor is virtually impregnable to anything but the rear is barely armored at all (mainly because this is one of those pieces of kit that is used from a long way away).
Because of this it is especially important that no enemy foot soldiers can flank the machine and for AI purposes the siege engine is equipped with a heavy machine gun.

In this shot you can see the boiler at the back and some of the cargo space.

This is a shot of the driver at his post.

Here you can see the usual contents of those boxes in the back(explosives, cash and guns).

This is The crew assignment for a standard machine of this class.
From left to right.
Commander (also operates the heavy machine gun).
Driver (you'll never guess what he does).
Gunning expert (deals with gunnery problems and helps protect against enemy foot troops ,he can also dual wield those tommy guns).
Engineer (operates the AA gun on top of the railings and fixes stuff).

Appologies about the small pics.

I've got more stuff as well to photograph but my camera needs more batteries and they are really hard to come by.

Artificial Intelligence?

I know it means Anti Infantry, but AI usually means Artificial Intelligence. If you don't see this, you're an idiot.

Maybe i should explain that i just did this as a half hour "doodle" as i do with almost everything due to the massive lack of time and bricks.
Maybe the rag-tag look adds to the steampunk feel.

There's not anything steampunk about it, except for the boiler on the inside. It looks like post-apoc with a big barrel inside, not steampunk. For one, it's not very cohesive at all, which makes it look like what you said it is, a 30 minute job. Also, steampunk has Victorian design, the only thing fitting on this is the cannon.

I understand it was a 30 minute doodle, but if you're planning on keeping it, I highly suggest working on it some more.

EDIT: First priority, make a chimney, I have no idea how you could miss something like that on a steampunk vehicle.

The overall design is fairly nice, but it feels too... open. It looks sorta like a mobile fortress, but it's too small to even come close to that category of vehicle, so right now it's in sortof an awkward limbo between "little red wagon" and "ubertank".

Like those figs!

Machine isn't bad, but yeah add a chimney and perhaps call the machine gun that name early machine guns had which slips my mind right now.

Either take of the top or do a total remake of it. The front needs more "pretty" but the inside is great.

The concept looks very nice, it just needs a finishing touch.

I was conseidering putting some armor between the top railing and the bottom section to make itlook more armored. Would this make it better or worse?

With the top railing and AA gun, it is to high for its size IMO.
