Cougar BattleMech

Post by Fedora » Mon Dec 20, 2010 9:19 pm

Rather than cram all my new stuff into one thread I will split it into two parts: The first, the Cougar Battlemech; the second, the 'Mech hangar, tank, hovercar, etc., etc.

First off, here's the Cougar Battlemech. This mech originally belonged to the Capellan Confederation, but was liberated (read: stolen) by Jack Mannen during a dangerous heist. Capellans do not fool around with security, so exactly how he pulled it off is still unknown. 8)

Front view! Left and Right Torso are occupied by LRM-5 long range missile racks, each with several reloads.

Top view. This gives a great view of the Beagle Active Probe (grey dome on top of mech) which affords it increased sensor range, and the ability to achieve missile lock through buildings or other obstacles. Also visible are the two Extended Range Large Lasers, below the black Omni pods. These are the Cougar's primary weapons.

A rear view displaying the Cougar's powerful Jump Jets.

The last thing a minifig would ever see.

Side view, with the ER Large Lasers. PEW PEW! PEWPEWPEW!

Sorry for the lighting in some of them, they were taken in my basement. At night. :?
Anyways, this will probably be my last mech as I am fast running out of vital Aweshum Parts (Aquanauts pieces). Unless I take apart the Wotan, which I probably will. It likes to fall apart XD

Lots of tires on that thing. That "Walker" has more tires then most wheeled vehicles. :D

Cooool! I'm sufficiently intimidated. The rest of your stuff is gonna be good.
Often, literally, a pillow fight but may include similar situations like volleyball, particularly when wardrobe is skimpy and the action is bouncy.

I'm no fan of the part spindly part blocky Battletech Mechs but this is still obviously awesome and I'm suitably impressed. And jealous.

Believe me I want to give you my seal of approval but something in me just hates mecha with widely spaced legs like that. My AC has its upper leg and hip joints closer together than that...

Eh, true, but that just means it has an advantage in foot placement. I assume that was necessary for balance? Excellent job.

Very cool mech you have there. I especially like the vivid colour scheme.

Great job!

thats one badass mech you have there, maybe you should space the legs a bit closer. Or maybe give it MOR legs.

Thanks guys.
I know what you mean about the legs, but I was partly shooting for accuracy to the original Cougar: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Cougar
In the appearance of the chassis, at least. The legs do balance the mech better, it has a good stance I think relative to the original and the weight of the torso is distributed better than the Wotan (MUCH better).
Sad to say it wasn't an original Mech like the Wotan. Strangely, though, it was actually harder for me to build something when I already knew what it would look like. If it was original, left and right torsos would not have been so hard. Ugh.

As I was building it, my dad told me I could've invented the lightbulb by now, which I thought was appropriate... building a Lego model is so much trial and error it may as well be. Worked several different the upper arm designs for a few hours, and it only uses about a dozen pieces :P
I'm sure you have all been there, but only in the past few months have I been taking some vicious stabs into the dark with my models. Brikwars helps. It is fun.

I could tell it was a Cougar from the maneater look & it's wideset hips(from giving childbirth). Great job on capturing the look, you going to try for the Vulture next?

If I do another BattleMech, it will have to be a Timberwolf. Classic :3
