Outskirts of Andelmere, the biggest port city in the Kingdom of Westeron...

Colonel Sarga Kan, supreme commander of Andelmere (guy in the middle with the black hair): "This is where we stand. Cities and villages are going dark, and there's rumours of a great horde of Draklon raiders on the move."
Uriz (brown-haired guy to the right of Sarga): "More than rumours. I've seen fires on the horizon for three days in a row now, and they seem closer each day..."
Sir Branton (left knight with blue epaulettes): "I'm sure you're overreacting. They can handle undefended farmsteads and villages just fine, but they're too cowardly to attack a walled city."
Sarga: "We can't take that chance. We need to figure out the best way to protect the city if they come here."

Sir Jason (white hair guy): "Just the city, colonel? I say we take the fight to them, kill the raiders before they get here and burn the farmsteads."

Uriz: "He does have a point. The villagers claim no one will survive the winter if their stocks keep getting destroyed. They've barricaded all entrances to their buildings and refused to retreat to the city."

Sir Branton: "The Urban Guard could protect the city while you are away."
Sarga: "Too risky. We don't even know what we're up against. For all we know the enemy could sneak past us and attack the city before we find them."

Boss Laris, governor of Andelmere (red epaulettes guy): "I'd prefer it if the the army would stay here as well. My- the people's possessions need to be protected!"
Sarga: "It's decided then. My men will defend the walls, the keep and the gate. Sir Jason, Sir Branton, I'm counting on you and your Urban Guard to act as a reserve."
Branton: "Understood."
Boss Laris: "Meanwhile I will spread propaganda and call the people to arms. Andelmerians are hardy people. The scallywags, especially, could do us a great service should the enemy strike at the harbour. Meanwhile let us pretend life is going on as usual. No need to spread unrest before the enemy even arrives."

The harbour of Andelmere, a few hours later.
Slimy Pete: "What be tha matter, Haircules? Forgot yer fishin' rod? Harharhar!"

*sploosh*

Slimy Pete: "Well I'll be."

Gallows' square...
Boss Laris: "My dear citizens of Andelmere, we are gathered here today to decide the fate of this sir Chicken Man-"
Chicken Man: "Chicken Suit Guy!"

Boss Laris: "... who stands accused of being completely and utterly useless! Chicken Man-"
"- suit guy!!!"
"- what do you have to say in your defense?"
"Err... I can flap my wings?"
Before the governor can pass the sentence alarms are sounded all over the city.
"I hate it when that happens," Laris grumbles to himself.

Sarga: "Is it the Draklon raiders?"
Uriz: "I don't think so. The guards seemed... confused."

An imperial flag? Sarga thinks as he scales the battlements to the gatehouse and looks outside.

Lord Malagram, ruler of Starkeep (dark grey knight): "In the name of Emperor Cales, open the gates!"
Sarga: "Since when is Cales emperor? And who the hell are you?"
Lord Malagram: "I am Lord Malagram, first advisor to Emperor Cales. This honourable title has been bestowed upon him by the king himself for Cales' tireless efforts to defend the realm, just as it happened before with House Deverre. The emperor has his own lands under control and has dispatched us here to help you defend against the Draklon raiders."

Sarga: "Defend, huh? So why are you carrying ladders, siege equipment?"
Lord Malagram: "A precaution. We had no idea whether or not we'd find the city occupied."

Sarga: "Strange that I wasn't notified of any of this. If you speak the truth, why don't you stay outside the walls and help defend the villages?"
Malagram: "How dare you doubt my word? Let us in at once or we will break down your gates and execute you for treason!"

Sarga: "Kiss my boot."
Malagram: "That's it! Full attack!"

Sarga: "Do your worst, imperial. You'll need a bigger army than that to breach this wall."

Sir Branton: "This is it, men! Get those gates open! Kill the royalists! For Cales! For the Empire!"

Sir Jason: "Time to plant a knife in those royalists' backs, boys. Kill everything. Everyone."

*splooch*

Technoviking: "???"

Pete's Mom: "Pete! Have ye done the dishes yet?"
Slimy Pete: "Not now mom!"

Fishstache: "Get these lousy pirates out of my face. Into the city! We'll kill every damn defender before that pansy Malagram can even finish breaking down the gates."

"Alarm! Water demons! They're with the enemy!"

The scallywags rush to the defenses.

Meanwhile the Draklon raiders have arrived to the field.

Draklon Matriarch: "Looks like these peasants are going to make a stand. They're completely on their own though. How shameful."

Sir Marcriss: "Not alone. The Knights of the Realm will never abandon the people!"
The doors burst open and out storm the Knights of the Realm: Sir Marcriss the Unyielding (front), Sir Alamar the Resilient (right), Yagan the Young (middle), Egon the Quick (front left) and Jarvis the Underhanded (back, left).

Sir Barad the Ungiving (front), Almond the Cunning (left) and Dillan the Fierce (right) support the farmers defending the windmill.

Matriarch: "This just became 20 percent more interesting. Give them an honorable death, if they so desire it."

Meanwhile Laris rallies the people. "Arm yourselves! We must all do our part!"
Chicken Suit Guy: "Can I do my part too?"

The citizens of Andelmere are prepared to give it their all and defend their homes.

Purple Mage: "We knew this day would come. We must do what we can to protect the city, my brethren."

Meanwhile Kath'os realizes the visions his sword Excallibull has been showing him must be true. The treason of Knight-Marshal Cales, the slaughter of his people, the death of Grand Marshal Marnix, all of it. Time to make a stand.

Welcome to the Attack on Andelmere. First of, there's this:
In this battle I'll be using 'victory points.' Each building is worth a certain number of victory points. Attackers can conquer a building by killing all the defenders inside / on top of it. If the defenders have less than 3 victory points left at any point, the defense has failed and they will surrender. If the defenders drop below 4 victory points their resolve will weaken and they will receive -1 to skill. Conversely, from round 4 on, if the defenders hold more than 8 victory points their resolve will be strengthened for +1 skill. The victory points are distributed as follows:
Serpent's Keep: 3 points
Gatehouse: 2 points
North wall: 1 point
South wall: 1 point
Harbour prison: 1 point
Fisher's hut: 1 point
Alchemist's workplace: 1 point
Mill: 1 point
Farm house: 2 points
(13 points total)
Apart from this claiming victory points is also a way for the Imperial factions to curry favour with Emperor Cales, and naturally each faction wants to have the most favour out of fear of being discarded when the conquest is over. Every hero you defeat also gives you 1 favour, champions even give 2.
Water: only water demons can walk on water, other figs suffer a skill and movement bonus (-1").
Turn order: by order of PM's.
