A Meeting of Minds

The Magic SOB forum is for posts of story sequences that are frequently vignette-based. Put those here while actual battle reports can go in Reports From the Field.
You must talk like James T. Kirk in this forum at all times. Leonard Nimoy is fine too.

A Meeting of Minds

Post by Zahru II » Tue Jul 22, 2014 6:31 pm

Following Isabella's successful raid, Majisto begins to experiment with the properties of ebonite ore.

Image

Majisto: 'My tests have shown that this so-called 'ebonite' has some rather odd qualities compared to other metals on Northeros: while it is conductive to electricity, it seems to be resistant to both extreme heat and cold. Furthermore, without proper craftsmanship applied, it is rather brittle and porous.'

Image

Majisto: 'However, its properties drastically change once magic is applied on it: it becomes malleable and elastic, allowing the user to bend its shape and form as he or she wishes. It is quite incredible that I was able to shrink that large cache into this small sample just through force of will.'

Image

Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'Indeed, your skills are impeccable, mortal.'
Majisto: 'Ack! How did you get here!?'
Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'Fool! What you see is not me "in the flesh", but an image I project into your mind.'
Majisto: 'Ah, long-distance telepathy I see!'
Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'What a idiotic thought! Only few incredibly powerful entites can reach out such distances. I'm speaking to you through the ebonite you're holding.'

Image

Majisto: 'I wouldn't even consider such applications! To master an unknown substance this quick... your skills are up to par with the Majistik.'
Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'Bah, I didn't have to master ebonite: I AM ebonite.'
Majisto: 'Well that does give you an edg-WHAT!?'

Image

Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'This shell I possess is but an avatar for me. I have manifested personally not too long ago.'

Image

Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'That time I was acting alone, confident I could bring this world to its knees... however my hubris became my undoing. I needed to recuperate and hatch a new plot, to which these foolish invaders lended themselves perfectly.'

Image

Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'I sensed you were an outsider when we first met on the fields of battle. Your skills impressed me enough for me to consider reaching out personally.'
Majisto: 'For what purpose though? I'm pretty sure there's more to this than just simple flattery.'
Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'I am here to reason with you and your allies: surrender, as you have no hope to survive if you wish to fight me.'
Majisto: 'I'm not sure if your previous defeat taught you anything at all.'
Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'Allow me to explain: just as I am one with ebonite, so is this land one with me. Now that I awakened, it is of my best interest to safeguard this land from outsiders until I do not reach my goals.'

Image

Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'There are forces beyond this realm whose arsenal surpasses anything you have ever encountered before!'

Image

Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'Not to mention other omnipotent entities your feeble mind would fail to comprehend.'

Image

Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'If you were to fight me, you would risk rendering your precious land and its primitive people to fall victims to forces far dreadful than mine.'
Majisto: 'Even if that is true, you would need much more than threats to keep us from fighting. I've seen what the people of this land are capable to do in times of peril. We are more than willing to take on you, the Falx, or any other force that is stupid enough to challenge us!'
Torquemada, Ebon-clad: 'Looks like I was wrong. You're nothing but a delusional old man clinging to false hope. I'll see you on the battlefield then. I'll let you know though: the more magic you feed ebonite, the stronger it gets; the stronger I get.

*The possessed Torquemada leaves Majisto's mind and shatters his ebonite into useless fragments.*

Image

Majisto: 'This is terrible news! We must stop the Falx and their true master before it's too late!'

Imperial Palace, war room:

Image

King Mondaine: 'What you have told me is quite frightening. Are you certain it is not just a bluff from the Falx?'
Majisto: 'It could be, however the reasoning makes sense... The Falx have been quite inactive, mainly claiming ebonite digsites but not any real territory. If this... creature truly feeds on magic, building and maintaining portals is just as important for it as conquest.'
King Mondaine: 'Then it is our prime directive to destroy their fortresses with haste! However, I'm not sure if our cohorts would willingly cut off themselves from their homeland. Here they come.'

Image

Pizzaro D'Oros: 'Well met, king Mondaine! My scouting has shown little Falx activity beyond already contested territories.'
King Mondaine: 'Excellent work, both of you. Majisto found out something rather important regarding ebonite and your former ally, Torquemada-'

Image

Gillaume: 'You might wanna doublecheck that! Excuse me for barging in, your grace, but a sizeable army of Falx and Ork, led by a fearsome warlord has been spotted marching into Imperial lands! Local outposts already began fortification.'

Image

King Mondaine: 'It seems our discussion has to wait. Since Lady Liana is still up North and my other men haven't recovered yet, it falls on you, Lord Pizzaro, to fend off this sudden assault.'
Pizzaro D'Oros: 'Aye! This "fearsome warlord" sounds an awful lot like Barthelomeo. Perhaps I could knock some sense into that thick head of his!'
Isabella: 'I am more than eager to join in on that!'
Majisto: 'Pardon me, your grace, but lady Isabella and I need to discuss some pressing matters.'

Image

Isabella: 'What is it now, old man?'
Majisto: 'This Falx attack sounds like a trap; right now we cannot afford both of you to walk straight into one. You should lay low for now and only interfere if necessary. I will have Gallikronn by your side.'

Well damn it. The Falx Republic doesn't take too kindly to plans of unleashing creatures such as Torquemada is threatening to... unleash, even if he isn't really himself anymore. Any Falx that are still on Northeros had better beware because if the Republic catches wind of this affront they will surely all be executed upon their return.
