@IV watching dubs is never a good idea. Even if the Japanese cast isn't good you won't know. 90s and 00s dubs are almost all shit for english tho. Gundam Wing is cool though in it's 90s way.

@Quantum Remember that 79 was the first show to do anything close to "real robot." Ideon is basically better in all ways and the compilation Gundam films are also quite good. I've always felt that 79 was like an embarrassing old grandpa who's kind of racist and rude but he also fought in WW2 and he's old so you give him a break.

See, that used to be my philosophy up until I realized that I was missing out on a lot of the artistry due to quickly reading the subs, then quickly viewing the animation. When it's in english, all my eyes have to focus on is the cool ass art. I feel like most of the point in Anime vs. other media is the way it's drawn and the cool ass stuff that happens, and I like paying attention to that as much as possible. That, and the fact that both the Trigun and Cowboy Bebop dubs are *fantastic* so I'm willing to be more forgiving.

It's funny that I started watching Outlaw Star again immediately after finishing Cowboy Bebop, because I couldn't avoid making unfair comparisons on everything from the animation to the dubbing to the plot. I set my expectations pretty low for Wing, so the fact that Duo Maxwell is *still* the baddest motherfucker makes me pretty damn happy.

lrn2red or lrn2jap I guess?

I'm the only person in the world who thinks Quattre is a badass. He's the only newtype in the entire show. Duo bothers me more because of all the slash fiction than his actual character. He pilots Deathscythe right? Probably the coolest of the 5 gundams,

Psycho Pass 2 Episode 1
Spoiler
Show
Honestly, I'm disappointed. The first episode of Psycho Pass was fantastic, and this was pretty good. I'm not really sure what it was lacking, but it just didn't seem as good.
This sig is too fucking large: show anyway

See, that's the argument I hear all the time but it doesn't actually address the issue. It's not about not being able to read quickly enough to catch the action or the action happening too fast to not read it, but the simple fact that my eyes are trying to pay attention to two separate things. I don't like half-assing either, so I prefer hearing it in my own language so I can fully commit to the action on-screen.

You're certainly not alone, he's my other favorite character. I love the scene where he and Trowa are fighting early on and he realizes that they shouldn't be fighting so he steps out of his suit. Trowa comes out with his hands up, but Quattre says "Hey, no need for that. I'm the one who came out and surrendered first, remember?" It shows that Quattre doesn't give a shit about pride or who "won" between them, as much as he recognizes that stopping their fight ASAP is the priority, by any means necessary. He's the perfect violent pacifist.

Duo does indeed pilot Deathscythe, which is easily the coolest Gundam. I only know a little about the slash - enough to know that I don't want to read it. So he remains unspoiled, and cool as hell.

Also IV, if you want some other good dubs, Steins;Gate and Baccano! are up there, and both of those are really good series.

I just relax my eyes and look at everything but I also understand 50-60% of what they're saying anyway.

I hate that they tried to tackle pacifism in Wing but none of the characters are actual pacifists. If you don't fight but let other people kill bad guys for you you aren't a pacifist. Poppa Peacecraft is spinning in his grave over how his dumbass kids turned out.

TBH that's a problem with Gundam in general, trying to balance "war is bad" and "look at this cool robot tearing shit up".
I don't think either of them succeeds, apart from G, where the Gundam fight is the actual means to avoid armed conflicts.

This is exactly why subs are stupid.

I wouldn't go so far as to call subs stupid, and no dub isn't going to stop me from watching something (read: the second half of Attack on Titan which I finally got around to), but i certainly have my preference.

My current impression of re-watching Gundam Wing is that it may be terrible, but it's way too awesome for me to give a shit and I am having way too much fun watching it. A major portion of that is nostalgia feels, but I don't care.

Rather than bothering to remember what you look like, for a long time I just imagined everything you posted as coming from wheelchair Duo.

I always thought he wore the Ice Planet helmet and OT visor in real life.
