Medieval weapon suggestions

Post by Battlegrinder » Fri Jan 23, 2015 9:50 pm

I've finally began to buy and construct my army, and outside of one issue it's going splendidly (I hope to have the entire project completed inside 2 or 3 months). The one issue is that I'm still unsure of what weapon to equip my mainline melee infantry with. For reference, said infantry consists 40 of these guys, organized into 4 squads of ten:

I've already ruled out halberds, long spears and the the like, as I'll be equipping my elite anti-cavalry formations with those (the idea behind the army is two have two large formations of standardized melee and ranged troops, with smaller squads of specialist personal attached to provide support). I'd like the regular infantry to use heavy weapons of some type. The current contenders are:
1) Standard lego spears
2) standard lego pointed greatswords
3) Brickarms claymores
4) brickwarriors viking swords

Now we just need somebody to vote for spears and you can make your final decision.

Can't go wrong with the standard Lego greatswords. In my opinion, spears would look weird wielded by these guys. To me, their helmets make them look bigger than some minifigs and they look a bit wimpy just holding spears.

Yup. Plus, standard Lego greatswords will probably come cheaper while still having the same effect.

Why isn't warhammer an option, these guys would look sick with those!

You're fucking right!
Only problem with silver bullets is the price of silver.

I considered that, but I just didn't like something about that look.

Well, spears are probably better 'cos you can use them to charge. Since looking cool is more important than functionality though, I picked greatswords as well.

Definitely great swords. They got the armour to look the part.

battlegrinder, don't listen to them, the viking sword makes the greatsword look like a bendy straw.

The only way to find out is to try different setups yourself. Cobble together some warhammers, maces, pikes, swords and the like, get a few shields in the mix and then find a combination you like. In my experience things have a slightly different feel when you see them in the flesh ABS, even stuff you didn't expect to work.
