Experiential Imperial Expeditionary Force (Updated 10/7/15)

Post by Chicken Tenders » Mon Sep 07, 2015 6:51 pm

Welcome to Schemetterling von Schwarzsturm's Magnificent Mechanical Carnival of Clattering and Clamoring Carnage Contraptions! Or as she's required to call it in the court of the Emperor, the Experimental Imperial Expeditionary Force... There is no flair. Originally this was just going to be a Master Engineer/Artillery Commander for my other faction http://brikwars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=14090 (because seriously, who'd leave a bunch of boney bastards in charge of such refined and technologically advanced machines as those which are found upon that field. They lack the fine monocular vision it takes to properly operate and obliterate such pieces as those!) But as I went along Schmetterling became her own faction, which she fits in better anyways!

Image

Schmetterling Von Schwarsturm, mastern engineer of the empire, owner of most magnificent mustache in her graduating class, voted most likely to make more friends than anyone- OUT OF METAL. She rides about the country side upon her mechanical steed Steambiscuit. A creation of her own design necessitated by the loss of her legs while taking her academy to the championships of gunpowder keg lacrosse.

Image

The to date full array of her mechanical forces. Constructed as a possible solution to just how many imperial soldiers are being cut down on a day to day basis by all the hellbeasts and ne'er-do-wells that can inhabit the world. When human production can't keep up, it's up to ingenuity and cold metal to make up!

Image

The basic soldiers of her forces, (Heavily reliant on http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/boses ... kwork1.jpg this design and slightly modified for a different power source, from tension springs to powerful and plentiful coal, the real working man's power source.) Equipped in similar fashion to their human counter parts, but with naturally occurring armor from their very act of existing!

Image

The original of Von Schwarsturm's "Scuddle-bug All-Terrain Ordinance Platforms and Companionship Comrades" Were equipped with a rack of muskets to allow one bug to fill in for 6 mechanical men!

Image

What in the history of ever hasn't been improved with a new mounting for larger, if fewer, guns for shredding those opponents in all new calibers?!

Image

The Scuttle-bug Lancers have a proud tradition dating back almost 3 months since their first creation. They ride valiantly upon their steed in their sturdy howdahs, directing their more melee-inclined than average Scuttle-bug into the heart of formations, scattering opponents and allowing them to be easily poked by the riders.

So there's still more to come! At least one update will follow!
______________ Updated! _____________________

An army of the Empire which marches to war without an Imperial Griffin in its ranks marches with its pants about its ankles and with signs carrying disparaging remarks about its own mothers around its necks. And Schmetterling loves her mother. But having technically never "commanded soldiers of the empire" she is technically not a General. And since the Imperial court is 90% Bureaucrats and 10% cool guys, that means she's not going to be getting a griffin from the stables any time soon. But, being the greatest engineer of The Empire, that's only a momentary hurdle...

So, with all the fanfare this mechanical carnival can muster, presented to you for amusement and awe, The Schmetterling Special, MK. II, The Imperial Gyro-ffin!

Image

Sporting 100% more heads and tails than your standard Imperial Griffin, and outweighing such beasts by a hefty margin, the Imperial Gyro-ffin brings the height of class and poise to the battlefield. Regal, yet mechanically efficient, belching black coal smoke and flame from its stacks as its twin props on rotating nacelles give it excellent maneuverability and speed.

Image

With twin sharpened metal beaks, heavy grappling claws, and powerful drive lines and gear ratios, it sports excellent offensive capabilities.

Image

Since its introduction, Steambiscuit still remains the favored mount of Schmetterling von Schwarzsturm, as riding the Gyro-ffin poses some significant health risks. Spinning blades and constant supply of choking smoke prove rather detrimental to even the most unhinged of inventors. As such, Steambiscuit and The Gyro-ffin have become quite fond of each other, as much as two machines can-- Likely owing to being the two master pieces of a great artist, who paints with all the colors of carnage.

______________ Updated! _____________________ Again!

After extensive testing, it was determined by Schmetterling that simply attaching the harvested beard off a wizard onto one of her creations did not bestow magical abilities to her constructs. Hats and staves proved similarly ineffective. Fortunately she wasn't entirely without flesh and blood companions. Enter Dain "The Boulder" Jotunnson, a renowned rune caster and forger. Before their partnership, he had to limit himself to augmenting non-animate creations, such as weapons, armor, and siege engines. Now, with Schmetterling's forces arrayed before him, he doesn't have to simply cause a sword to be engulfed with runic-flames, he can do that to the whole soldier!

Image

He rides into battle upon the Battle Boar Biga, a two boar chariot, wielding the ancestral staff of his clan and a hammer inscribed with runes bestowing great power to the throwing arm of its dwarven wielder. Where it lands, elemental forces strike, be they lightning and earthquakes, or firestorms and freezing winds.

If you mean Concave Dolphin could benefit from being run over by a tank, I think they already have.

I like the uniformity of the forces and the creativity behind this. I think they need at least one big vehicle, a steam tank or something like that.

This army deserves the seal of approval of the Imperial Bureau of Inspection and Certification.

I'm happy you brought that up-- something that may just fill that bill exactly is what I'm working on currently but am waiting on some pieces for. It's not a steam tank, though I did think about that as an option, but I wanted to go a different direction than I've seen done before. Hopefully you'll all like it! Hopefully it'll be ready pretty soon.

That's an awesome design! I love the colors and the tridents really look good with it! That was about what happened to me too. After I found that picture of the clock work knight design and changed it about to be a steam powered one and in the color scheme I'd set up while creating Schmetterling and the two scuttle-bugs with muskets, I just immediately built 20. That mass influx of infantry to the army is what necessitated the new types of scuttle-bugs to help it feel evened out and whole. Which also required more steam soldiers in the case of the lancers. It's a really incredible design that person came up with as a base, a lot can be done with it! I've thought about other color changes that could look good too, like possibly one red cone one white cone, and one red vertical clip and one white vertical clip, really any color combo like that which can give off a heraldry look seems like it could be pretty cool.

http://www.classic-castle.com/forum/vie ... hp?t=12736 Searched about to find the link for the post which bore the picture the design came from, it's got a couple others of what his looked like.

I don't have any plans yet, necessarily, but if I can maybe find someone in my area who'd be interested I'd probably enjoy it quite a bit.

Also good news-- my pieces are in the mail, so the update with a large item to finish off the force should be forthcoming!

These knights are pretty damn cool, if you ever find the parts in the right colours you can have a go at some Steam-Swiss-Guards, and the tooth/claw piece work really well as a sort of cast-iron chestplate. The way everything is duplicated a bit gives a nice feel of a horde of steam powered clockwork soldiers, these guys feel really fun, I'm getting excited picturing them in a fight.

This is a really great army! Steambiscuit is probably my favorite. I'd love to see them in a battle sometime.
