There are some truly epic battles going on in the forums right now, so rather than posting links to any of those, I’m going to leave it to you to find them and send you to go look at this other thing instead. Swedish freelance artist and Diglett fan Niklas Jansson has posted a massive pile of concept sketches and thoughts to his Android Arts site about redesigning classic LEGO Space themes. There’s a whole lot of material to plow through, but look towards the bottom half of the page for highlights like a massive OTC tunneler for Ice Planet, some Zaku-styled Blacktrons, and of course the sexy Space Babes.

There have been plenty of awesome battle reports coming in over the last couple of months that I’ve been too lazy to post, but there was no way I could let this one pass without comment. It’s the first one I’ve seen to put Obama and his well-known superpowers to use in combat, to truly stupendous effect. This is a moment that will shape history. The pictures aren’t the best quality, but from start to epic conclusion this is truly a battle not to be missed.

Happy 2008 everybody! To celebrate, here are some optimistic new minifig desktops to welcome the incoming year. The joyful little fellow in “Moving Target” could not be more pleased to see everybody, and the “Valkyrie” is our own Nike of Samothrace (except better armed). She’s happy to offend parents with cartoon anatomy rather than gratuitous violence, making her one of the least crude images on the site.

Roys over at The Download Munkey draws an interesting parallel between the BrikWars painting and Kev Walker’s “Last Stand” art for WH40K. Man I sure hope that our version came first.

Almighty Benny has cemented his position as BrikWars Genius by turning a good idea for rewarding mayhem into what may very well be the greatest BrikWars YouTube movie created to date. His “Last Man Standing” rule gives powerful bonuses to players who burn through all their excess troops in a hurry. The rule and the battles that followed are described and discussed in great detail in the Frappr forum thread, and the battlefield adventures of the Imperial Navy, the Castle Guards, and the SWAT Team are immortalized forever in their YouTube epic.

One more quick piece of desktop artwork for your enjoyment – this time it’s the Horse, prancing through showers of flower blossoms without a care in the world. He’s a little more life-affirming than you may have come to expect from BrikWars art, but his passenger is much more in line with the usual fare. The horse and the gryphon rider painting from the last post are the subjects of two cards for the upcoming Horses chapter. The Horse is a new unit, while the Rider is just an alternate version of the Pilot with whom you’re all already familiar.

Happy 2007 everybody! I was listening to the All About Miniatures podcast today, and someone wrote in to say that BrikWars is the Wargames Unlimited group’s single best game. All right! We’re number one! Although on closer inspection I don’t really think we have anything to do with Wargames Unlimited, I’m still happy to accept the accolade. Meanwhile, over on Classic-Castle.com, Fryslayer has put up a new chapter in what’s becoming a series of comic-book style battle writeups, this time for “Attack of the Spiders.” Lastly, I’ve got a new desktop graphic for everyone! This one’s a gryphon rider I painted up for an in-the-works mini-chapter on horses and other steeds. |
Ever since I saw my first Fleebnork, many terrifying years ago, I’ve wanted to make official BrikWars stats for it. But until I got these stat cards going, I didn’t have a good medium with which to deliver them. So I’ve added a section for Unit Stat Cards to the Downloads page – you can find Fleebnorks along with BrikWars’ more usual combatants summarized in card form there. There are blank cards and Photoshop templates as well, so players can make up whatever new units they like. Since the Fleebnork art looks so nice, I’ve put it up as a desktop graphic as well. (Fleebnork and the Fleebnork character are copyright (c)2003 Mark Sandlin.)

I’ve just put one more desktop in the Downloads section for the faithful – this knight has returned from his quest for the Skully Grail.
