One more quick piece of desktop artwork for your enjoyment – this time it’s the Horse, prancing through showers of flower blossoms without a care in the world. He’s a little more life-affirming than you may have come to expect from BrikWars art, but his passenger is much more in line with the usual fare. The horse and the gryphon rider painting from the last post are the subjects of two cards for the upcoming Horses chapter. The Horse is a new unit, while the Rider is just an alternate version of the Pilot with whom you’re all already familiar.

Happy 2007 everybody! I was listening to the All About Miniatures podcast today, and someone wrote in to say that BrikWars is the Wargames Unlimited group’s single best game. All right! We’re number one! Although on closer inspection I don’t really think we have anything to do with Wargames Unlimited, I’m still happy to accept the accolade. Meanwhile, over on Classic-Castle.com, Fryslayer has put up a new chapter in what’s becoming a series of comic-book style battle writeups, this time for “Attack of the Spiders.” Lastly, I’ve got a new desktop graphic for everyone! This one’s a gryphon rider I painted up for an in-the-works mini-chapter on horses and other steeds. |
I got a surprise package from Hong Kong last week – Red Bean (from the Minifig Customization Network and BrickForge) sent a custom minifig of the night elf pictured on BrikWars’ Scout card. Sweet! So I’ve dressed her up nice with a Dementor cloak and a BrickForge longbow and snapped a photo for a Scout card alternate version.

Ninjas got you down? The Scout unit has an uncanny knack for spotting traps, hazards, and Stealthy opponents – as well as performing targeting support to help your ranged units take down tricky foes. Sorry the stat cards are coming out so slowly – I’m not suffering from any lack of unit ideas (there are still plenty of classics from the 2001 roster to burn through, for instance), it’s a matter of finding time in the schedule to do the artwork. I haven’t solved that little problem just yet, but I luckily just found an old illustration of a Dusk Elf lying around on my hard drive that makes a nice portrait for the new Scout card.

Mike - May 31, 2006 - Downloads, Stat Cards
In preparation for a battle based on LEGO’s “Knights’ Kingdom™” sets, I’ve drawn up a couple of quick stat cards for the four heroes and added them to the Supplements page. Depending on how the battle goes, other characters from the Knights storyline may be on the way.

Ever since I saw my first Fleebnork, many terrifying years ago, I’ve wanted to make official BrikWars stats for it. But until I got these stat cards going, I didn’t have a good medium with which to deliver them. So I’ve added a section for Unit Stat Cards to the Downloads page – you can find Fleebnorks along with BrikWars’ more usual combatants summarized in card form there. There are blank cards and Photoshop templates as well, so players can make up whatever new units they like. Since the Fleebnork art looks so nice, I’ve put it up as a desktop graphic as well. (Fleebnork and the Fleebnork character are copyright (c)2003 Mark Sandlin.)

I’ve just put one more desktop in the Downloads section for the faithful – this knight has returned from his quest for the Skully Grail.

With a couple of fancy images coming in for the minifig stat cards, I thought it’d be nice to release a few as desktop backgrounds. Visit the Downloads page for shots of the Pilot, the Hero, and the Officer.

Just a minor update – BrikWars now has link banners, as well as a couple of additional desktop backgrounds. All are available on the Downloads page. In other news, the Frappr map has been holding steady at just shy of a hundred people, keeping BrikWars well in the lead of other brick-related Frapprs. Thanks to a strong rally by NELUG, the title of BrikWars Capital of the World has been wrested from Southern California and returned to New England where it belongs. Thank goodness! The Frappr has its own message forum, so I’m going to start pointing people over there when they want to make announcements about organizing games. We’ll see how well that works. Lastly, with the arrival of the new year, people have been asking about the status of BrikWars 2005. It’s doing just fine, thank you very much! There are still some wrinkles in the new Squads rules and the streamlined Creations rules for vehicles, buildings, and creatures, but we’re ironing them out and the book is starting to look pretty slick. And yes, it’ll still be called BrikWars 2005 when we get around to releasing it.

Final art is in on 2005’s two most important stat cards. Take a sneak peek at the standard Minifig and the amazing Hero.
