Oh nevermind. I thought it was the japanese special effect genre like Ultraman and Godzilla and Kamen Rider. I'm conversationally fluent in Japanese so I can eat breakfast and watch subs at the same time but I understand that'd be annoying if you can't understand without reading. Also I don't eat cereal, I usually eat fried potatoes so I can use the fork and just stab until I feel I got something instead of looking down.

Good Battle Shounen

Post by Silverdream » Sat Apr 30, 2016 1:11 am

Battle shounen is something that most anime viewers tend to watch, or get started with, and there's a lot of really great shounen out there. There are classics like Yu Yu Hakusho, One Piece and Dragon Ball Z, masterpieces like Hunter X Hunter, and then trash. Trash is when a series just becomes really boring and predictable, or takes itself too seriously. This includes stuff like Fairy Tale or Sword Art Online. The former being so bad I haven't even watched it. I'll go into detail about categorization and ranking shounen.

Good shounen includes shows that are usually quite cliche, but entertainingly so. These anime are usually about a protagonist who's fighting an evil bad guy and trains to fight better until he can beat him. They usually lack good characterization or depth however, and they're poor man's versions or ripoffs of other shounen. Here are some examples:
  • Noragami
    Attack on Titan
    Medabots
    Kekkai Sensen
    Bleach
    Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu
    Gunbuster
    Dragon Ball Z
    Dragon Ball
Now you may be thinking, that this is being too critical of something meant for kids, but I disagree. Children's cartoons are produced and made by adults. Tons of effort, labour and money goes into these anime. They deserve to be criticized and held to the same standard as other anime in their genre.

Great shounen are series that not only follow the journey of physical self-improvement, but examine the mental growth of characters beyond using friendship as a coping mechanism.
  • Hunter X Hunter
    Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
    One Piece
    Noragami Aragato
    Fullmetal Alchemist
    Fist of the North Star
and then we have trash, which only consists of Fairy Tale. These are anime for in bread morons who don't understand good writing, spend 22 hours a day creating 3D washing machines in Blender and describe themselves as smart and unique. Fuck you Tzan, watch good anime or don't watch anime at all. Go buy some pennies at the money store if you can't afford it.

Ok, I'm not going to argue that Fairy Tail is a good show, cause in all honesty there's nothing spectacular or unique about it I'm just obsessed with it. But I would argue that its at least better than SAO, which was mediocre for the first 14 episodes and a steaming pile of shit afterwards. SAO definitely took itself too seriously. But Fairy Tail isn't that bad, and it absolutely has its great moments. It's somewhat lacking in character development, but then I don't remember much of that in One Piece either, although I've only read the manga and haven't watched the anime. In fact the main characters of the two shows are fairly similar.

Also when you put FMA is that both series or did you exclude Brotherhood?

I will unironically fight for Fairy Tail with all the power of a fire dragon and you cannot stop me!

I will abide by the other three.

Yo guys are all fucking loses. I would never watch a show made for little boys. Everyone knows little girl shows are way better. Some classics include:

Card Captor Sakura
Precure
Ronja the Robber's Daughter
Sofia the First

I'm starting to work on 3D dryers next.
Both normal in home units and commercial coin operated.
But I'm not doing those damn card operated, they can rot in hell!
